«Breaking News» Strictly star AJ Pritchard believes he will be a better teacher to Paralympian Lauren Steadman

He traded teaching the stars to spice up their moves on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor for cooking up a storm on MasterChef.

And AJ Pritchard exclusively dished to MailOnline how the high intensity pressure in the kitchen has put him in good stead for this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The dancer, 23, revealed how MasterChef has given him the ingredients to be a better teacher to Paralympian Lauren Steadman ahead of Strictly this weekend.

AJ explained competing on the cooking show allowed him to put himself in the stilettos of his dance partner.

He told us: 'In fact the experience has helped me understand how to coach my Strictly partner better.

'The celebs on Strictly are going into something not knowing what they’re doing and so this helped me see it more from their point of view, which is new for me.

'It also helped me mentally with anxiety or pressure.'

AJ and Lauren will make their grand entrance on the BBC show by waltzing to I'm Kissing You by Des'ree this weekend.

The award-winning dancer had a glimmer of the Glitter Ball trophy last year after he reached the semi-final with his gorgeous dance partner Mollie King.

As well as bringing what he has learnt from the experience to the dance floor, the choreographer noted he also was able to use his Strictly skills in the kitchen.

'Being a dancer I brought timing into the kitchen,' he explained. 'So if I had an hour to do a dish I knew my timing had to be on point. I’m used to keeping to a time frame. I would think "don’t worry, in 30 seconds it has to be on a plate.

'Be calm and confident". It’s just strange because suddenly you’re not the pro – John Torode and Greg Wallace are.

'I was always sure to practice at home for MasterChef. I am naturally someone who works hard in life and so even off camera I am always working.

'I can enjoy stuff knowing I’ve practised – that I have gone home and done my homework. Even if the night before I was crying because my honey-glazed carrots didn’t work out.'

Despite facing the wrath of notoriously tough judges Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas each week, AJ insisted MasterChef's John and Greg were 'scarier'.

He divulged: 'The scariest people, between the Strictly judges and the MasterChef judges are John and Greg – they just walk around and don’t say anything, they have the best poker faces.'

It's no surprise however that AJ, with his wealth of dance experience, felt more out of his comfort zone during the cooking challenges than dancing live on television.

He said: 'The challenges where we were cooking for paid customers, or the mass catering rounds were tense. The pressure of cooking for all those people was scarier than dancing live in front of 12m on TV.

'But when I got through to the semis – my face was just pure elation.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
