«Breaking News» Strictly Come Dancing: Susannah Constantine hits back at fans complaining about lineup

Some fans have suggested the 2018 Strictly Come Dancing line-up lacks star power.

But Susannah Constantine knows just what to say to those calling out the BBC show for its ‘barrel scraping' declaring: ‘For f**k’s sake. I’m sorry, but get over yourself,’ when asked about the backlash by MailOnline.

Chatting to journalists ahead of Saturday’s launch show, the What Not To Wear presenter, 56, is adamant the BBC flagship show still has its sparkle.

‘Really this is a great show. We are all really privileged to do it. It’s a fun show, it’s entertainment and we’re all here to do our best. So just get over it,’ Susanna insists.

And she only has praise for the likes of YouTuber Joe Sugg, who has attracted a particular strong amount of vitriol from Strictly’s core audience, who tend to favour soap stars over vloggers.

‘I think it’s been such a clever move for the BBC to get an eclectic group like this, it’s been really smart and having someone like Joe is genius,' she says.

‘He’s such a lovely guy, and he’s bloody good at what he does. Everyone here is one of the best at what they do, and so huge respect to all of them.

Her co-star, Blue singer Lee Ryan, agrees, pointing out: ‘You have to expect some kind of negative opposition to this whole machine, and what it is, and the show. It’s the biggest show in the world. People are gonna go out there and say “I hate it” but they’re still going to watch it. ‘

Susannah rose to fame with the launch of What Not To Wear in 2001, which saw her and Trinny Woodall tearing apart women’s appearance before rebuilding them in style and confidence, with the help of a decent bra.

They moved onto Trinny and Susannah Undress the Nation five years later, switching from the BBC to ITV in a deal reportedly worth £1.2million, but that show ended in 2007.

While Trinny appears as a style guru on the likes of This Morning, aside from an early exit from the jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here three years ago, Susannah has remained away from the spotlight for the past decade.

The mother of three is now making her TV comeback, choosing perhaps the biggest show on British telly in which to re-emerge into the public eye - not that that daunts her.

In many ways, not much has changed, with the blonde introducing herself to journalists at the press launch with streams of compliments including a trademark:  ‘nice t*ts’.

And she says returning to screens is like coming home.

‘I think for me, I don’t think about what’s going on outside, coming back into an environment like this is like coming home really. I feel so at home here and in this environment, and that’s lovely actually.’

‘I haven’t missed it at all, until now I’m doing this and I think “Oh my God, I remember, I really love doing this”. So yeah it’s been great, it’s been really great.’

'But everything - the attention to detail, the way everything is cut. I mean, they are master seamstresses those women.’

‘They are absolutely incredible.’

Susannah insists she won’t be reverting to her What Not To Wear days backstage, promising: ‘I’m following their lead, but I have a couple of things, which is no high necklines, and I don’t want to show my arms. I’ll do anything else.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday September 8 at 7:35pm.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
