Amanda Bray (pictured) and her husband have saved thousands over the past two years by ditching designer stores and opting to do a lot of the hard work themselves
With the average Australian home renovation project costing between $75k and $105k, many save for several years before they can make their dream abode a reality.
But one savvy couple from Ballarat, Victoria, has renovated their entire home for just $23,000 thanks to handy DIY tricks and budget decor from Kmart and Big W.
Amanda Bray, a stay-at-home mother-of-two, and her husband have saved thousands over the past two years by ditching designer stores and opting to do a lot of the hard work themselves.
'My husband did all the demolition side himself and helped any tradies where he could,' Ms Bray, 31, told FEMAIL.
'Anything you can do yourself just put in the hard yards and get it done. It will save you a lot of money.
'Our renovations have taken us approximately two years so far because we have done a lot ourselves and we have two young children.'
Before: The kitchen was the most expensive room to renovate, with the entire project taking two months and costing $10,000
After: 'We kept the layout of the kitchen the same we just demolished the old one and designed a new one with lots of extra storage,' Ms Bray said, adding that the decor cost a total of $96
THE KITCHEN
The kitchen was the most expensive room to renovate, with the entire project taking two months and costing $10,000.
'We kept the layout of the kitchen the same we just demolished the old one and designed a new one with lots of extra storage,' Ms Bray said, adding that the decor cost a total of $96.
The grey and charcoal salt and pepper shaker from Aldi cost them $30 for the set, the brown set from Kmart cost $8 and added DIY labelling cost $2.
'Lots of simple, cheap items can be turned into something totally different with a little bit of 'TLC,' she said.
Other Kmart products in the kitchen include the serving board ($10), vase ($6), canister ($4), tray ($16), tea pot ($8) and plate ($2).

THE LOUNGE ROOM
The lounge room cost $8,500 to renovate and the project took one month.
'When we designed our lounge we both knew we wanted a fireplace. It was a huge cost but worth every penny,' Ms Bray said.
The decor cost just $393 in total and the the contemporary styling has transformed the space into a relaxed, decluttered oasis.
'Never pay full price for items at the more expensive shops - wait as most have sales regularly,' Ms Bray said.

'Sometimes too much affordable decor can look a bit tacky so just make sure you mix it up.'
The sophisticated rug only cost her $29 from Target and she decorated the living room table with a variety of trinkets from Kmart, ranging from $2 to $10.
In the nook of the room Ms Bray has also created a reading corner, where she incorporated the popular Occasional chair from Kmart in the blush shade, which only set her back $49.
This space also features a $29 Target throw, a $12 glass tray from Kmart and faux flowers.

THE DINING ROOM
This space cost just $1,000 to renovate and it took two weeks to complete.
'Behind our original dining room and kitchen was a long sun room,' Ms Bray said.
'We knocked out a wall to make the dining room bigger and to give the space some more light. We also made the space behind the kitchen into a study/walk-in linen closet.'

THE LAUNDRY
This space was renovated in three weeks for a total cost of $3,500.
'We only originally had one bathroom in our house,' Ms Bray said.
'Our laundry was quite large so to utilise the space we decided to make this space into a second bathroom and a laundry. '
Like other areas of the home, Ms Bray used classic decor from Big W and Kmart to bring the space to life.
'Decorating your house does not have to cost a fortune there are so many affordable shops to buy amazing decor items to brighten up any space,' Ms Bray said.

THE BACKYARD
The backyard wasn't as involved, with the couple choosing to spruce it up with a $1,000 Big W cubby house renovation.
The final touch was a $39 Kmart bench chair and a $10 cushion from Kmart.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
