While speculation and confusion reigned on Monday as to whether Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would be leaving his post at Justice Department, President Donald Trump's lawyer has called for a pause in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation should Rosenstein leave his post.

Trump's personal attorney, Jay Sekulow, called for a 'time out on this inquiry,' referring directly to  Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 campaign.

'It clearly becomes necessary and appropriate... that there be a step back taken here, and a review - and I think it's a review that has to be thorough and complete' if Rosenstein is dismissed or resigns, Sekulow said.

Sekulow's comments reflect an ongoing campaign from President Trump's legal team, which includes Rudy Giuliani, to call for an end to Mueller's probe.

Rosenstein visited the White House on Monday to meet with Chief of Staff John Kelly with the expectation that he would be fired but he remained in the post as of Monday night.

The news came in relation to reports in recent days that at two separate meetings attended by Rosenstein then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe the day before Mueller was appointed in May 2017, Rosenstein suggested that McCabe or others wear a wire when speaking with the president.

Sources told ABC News that, according to the memos, Rosenstein raised the possibility of recruiting members of the president's Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office for being unfit.

Rosenstein said he thought he would be able to persuade Attorney General Jeff Sessions and then-Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to sign on.

On Friday, Rosenstein issued statements denying that he took any action to pursue secret recordings of Trump or that there was any basis to invoke the 25th amendment.

However, Rosenstein did not deny that he raised the prospect of using the 25th amendment or a wire to record the president.

Earlier this year, Trump accused Rosenstein of being one of the most conflicted officials at the Justice Department, asserting without evidence that he was among those seeking proof of a Trump-led conspiracy with Russia¿s election interference

Rosenstein's fate remains unclear. ABC News reported on Monday that the president has already spoken to another official about becoming the acting deputy attorney general.

Rosenstein is now expected to meet Trump in person on Thursday 'to discuss the recent news stories,' according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

Discussions over whether Trump will be interviewed by the special counsel have gone on for more than a year but as of now there is no clear indication as to whether the president will be summoned to give evidence.

The uncertainty is clearly bothering members of Trump's inner circle. In late August, Rudy Giuliani, one of the president's lawyers, tweeted, 'Just a few days before 60 day run-up to 2018 elections. If Mueller wants to show he's not partisan, then issue a report on collusion and obstruction.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
