«Breaking News» Landlord’s Coyote Ugly-style dance to promote theme night lands him with legal letter from US lawyer

A British pub owner has been banned from holding a Coyote Ugly-themed night after being contacted by lawyers in New York.

Barney Wills, who owns Boomerangs in Plymouth, filmed a video of himself dancing on the bar and stripping to LeAnn Rimes song 'Can't Fight The Moonlight' to advertise the event.

The video, which quickly went viral, caught the attention of lawyers in America, and he received a letter on Friday telling him to cease and desist from using anything associated with trademarked Coyote Ugly.

He also has to change the name of the event to something that doesn't include the terms Coyote or Ugly or any other names similar to it.

But Mr Wills is determined to go ahead with an event, even if it means changing a few things.

The 43-year-old, told the Plymouth Herald: 'The letter just came Friday from New York, I had to sign for it. What is the point? I just think it's funny.

'I'll just come in [dressed] as a woman – we'll still be doing something. I've had loads of people say they wanted to dance, about 20-25 girls and we have three proper dancers too. It's crazy. I'm not going to pay too much attention to it [the letter]. I'll ruffle a few feathers yet.'

A spokesman for law firm Pryor Cashman LLP said: 'While we are big fans of Mr. Wills and his comical viral video, Coyote Ugly must take any violation of its intellectual property seriously, and cannot countenance the use of its name in connection with the prospective event, which usurps its goodwill and will cause confusion among consumers as to the event's association with or endorsement by Coyote Ugly. We trust Mr Wills understands our client's concerns.'

The Coyote Ugly Saloon is a New York bar and the namesake of an international chain of bars. It served as the setting for the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
