Jamie Murray can now boast twice the number of Grand Slam titles that his brother has after he and Bethanie Mattek-Sands held their nerve on Saturday night to win the US Open mixed doubles title.
The 32-year-old Scot and his American partner claimed a fourth match point in a sudden death tiebreak to beat Croatia’s Nikola Mektic and Poland’s Alicja Rosolska 2-6, 6-3 (11-9), and claim the £120,000 winner’s cheque.
It amounted to a successful defence of the title he won last year with Martina Hingis, and takes his tally of mixed championships to four, added to the two he has won in men’s doubles.

Murray and the extrovert Mattek-Sands trailed 1-4 in the ‘champions’ tiebreak but then ran off eight of the next ten points to put themselves on the cusp of victory.
Three match points, including one on the Murray serve, were missed but at the fourth time of asking he drove a volley at Rosolska’s feet to clinch victory.
Hingis had come along to watch, and it is fair to assume that the Swiss doubles genius would not have replicated Mattek-Sands in the first set.

Wearing her trademark knee length socks the veteran American was broken twice in the first set while Rosolska, ranked 31 in doubles, just about managed to hold onto hers.
Murray found his serve under threat in the second set, but the breakthrough was made when Rosolska was broken at 3-5, paving the way for the match to go into a deciding tiebreak.
His next appointment will be this coming Saturday, when he will play in the doubles for Britain against Uzbekistan in the Davis Cup match taking place in Glasgow.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
