«Breaking News» The House With A Clock In Its Walls chimes in with $26.8 million to take top spot at the box office

The House With A Clock In Its Walls easily topped the domestic box office with a better than expected $26.8 million in an otherwise quiet weekend at theaters.

Director Eli Roth's adaptation of the popular children's book, starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett, didn't have much competition, according to Variety.

A number of holdovers filled out the top five as a trio of new releases came in way under expectations.

Perfect timing: The House With A Clock In Its Walls, starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett, came in a No. 1 at the domestic box office with a better than expected $26.8 million

However, the family friendly movie ticked up another $3.1 million overseas for a global start of just under $30 million with Imax screens accounting for $2.5 million of its box office total.

One disappointment of the weekend was Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 which opened at eighth with $3.1 million in 1,719 cinemas.

It could be considered as a huge debut for most documentaries but it was a fraction of the $23.9 million opening generated in 2004 by Moore's record-breaking Fahrenheit 9/11. That film went on to make $222.4 million worldwide, a record for documentaries.

Moore's new film, which examines the rise of Trump and other developments like the water crisis in his hometown of Flint, Michigan, was the first release from former Open Road chief executive Tom Ortenberg's new distributor, Briarcliff Entertainment. It had been predicted to open with $5 million to $8 million.

But despite a surge in success for documentaries at the box office - including RBG, Won't You Be My Neighbor and Three Identical Strangers - Fahrenheit 11/9 didn't catch on.

A Simple Favor, the neo-noir mystery drama starring Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively and Henry Golding, landed in second place with $10.4 million in its second frame.

To date, the chiller has earned $32.5 million in North America and $10 million overseas  for a global haul of $42.5 million.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
