«Breaking News» Freddie Burns says he is ready to play leading role for Bath after difficult first year

Freddie Burns needs to stop sulking if he is be handed the keys to No 10 a Bath - according to the man himself.

The 28-year-old former Gloucester playmaker returned to his home-town club last season, and was frustrated as he played second-fiddle to Welshman Rhys Priestland.

But ahead of a rare start in Bath's derby match against the Cherry & Whites on Saturday, Burns now knows he needs to stop complaining and start fighting for the shirt.

Freddie Burns admitted he had a difficult first season at Bath but is ready to step up this year

'I've had to buck my ideas up from last year,' he told Sportsmail.

'I was a bit sulky in patches because of how it was going.

'You can't get too frustrated with things you can't control. It is easier said than done. I wear my heart on my sleeve.

'Everyone knew it was a frustrating season for me last year.

'Everything from coming in with concussion from Leicester, and having a three-month stand-down, to being sent off on debut, it was a difficult season.

'One thing I did in the off season was to put it behind me.

'When I get an opportunity - which I hope to get - I plan on taking it. That's all you can do.'

Burns has swapped sides with Matt Banahan, who makes his return to the Rec after leaving for Gloucester this summer.

'It will be strange to see Banas in a different coloured shirt,' added Burns.

'It is tough to come home and play against the team that you used to play for. He was here for many years. It'll be a good but difficult day for him.

'I loved my time at Gloucester - they gave me my shot, and I played 100-odd times for them.

'They will always have a special place in my heart but that squad and team has changed from the logo, to the personnel - it is all change since I was there.'

But ahead of a...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
