«Breaking News» Designer Edda Gimnes accuses Moschino of using her creations

An emerging designer has accused Moschino of using her creation as inspiration for its most recent catwalk collection.

Edda Gimnes, who is based in London, shared a number of side-by-side pictures of her work along with images from the Italian brand's Spring/Summer 2019 show in Milan, which appeared to show similarities between the looks.

She claims she had a meeting with an employee from the brand last November, during which she showed off all her work, including her 'original sketchbooks and ideas'.

Posting on social media, Edda - who graduated from the London College of Fashion - says she believes Moschino has 'unquestionably used' her Spring/Summer 2016 and 2017 collections 'as inspiration without granting me any credit'.

Moschino has denied the allegations, saying that trompe-l’œil - the technique used by designers to create optical illusions - 'has been a long-standing motif embedded in the Moschino DNA.'

The spokesperson added that creative designer Jeremy Scott's eponymous brand 'also depicted sketches and doodles in collections far pre-dating this one.'

Nevertheless, many have been quick to take Edda's side after seeing the similarity between the two collections.

Following the Moschino show last week, the young designer wrote: 'Today I woke up extremely disappointed and to a full inbox of people who know my work and saw yesterday’s Moschino collection.

'I understand we are in an industry that carries inspiration from each other and as it is said, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

'But it is disheartening to see, after having a meeting with someone from Moschino in New York in November last year. showing this person absolutely ALL My work and My original sketchbooks and ideas.'

Edda continued: 'Seeing the Moschino show yesterday makes me so sad and I feel so hurt that someone has, the way it looks to me,unquestionably used my SS16 and SS17 collections as inspiration without granting me any credit.

'Have a look at the pictures from their show yesterday and make up your own minds!!'

The designer later shared another post in which she thanked her followers for their support.

'I want to express my gratitude to all those who have supported me in social media. For this, I am both overwhelmed and humble,' she said.

'For the time being, I will not waste my time nor my energy on this matter. Instead, I will continue to work as passionately and hard as never before and aim even higher - the best is yet to come.'

In a statement, Moschino said: 'Trompe-l’œil has been a long-standing motif embedded in the Moschino DNA.

'Jeremy Scott’s eponymous line has also depicted sketches and doodles in collections far pre-dating this one.

'He continues to pay homage to Franco Moschino and was inspired by the conceptualisation of a designer’s ideas coming to life on the runway in "incomplete forms" ranging from the sketching and design process to the tailoring, pinning, and bolts of fabric choices draped on model forms.

'This collection was Jeremy’s love letter to fashion and it his and the brand’s greatest wish that it inspires future generations of young creatives to colour our world with their dreams too.'

Jeremy also addressed the allegations in a series of Instagram Stories posts, explaining: 'Normally I do not address gossip or questions about my inspirations, but I feel I need to defend myself against untrue accusations regarding my latest Moschino collection.'

He also shared several images from Moschino's previous collections that are akin to the pieces on the most recent runway.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
