«Breaking News» DC United 3-3 Red Bulls: Wayne Rooney scores his fifth of the season

Wayne Rooney's fifth goal of the season put DC United on course for victory, but Bradley Wright-Phillips' 90th minute equaliser rescued a point for New York Red Bulls.

Rooney gave DC United a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute as he converted Oniel Fisher's cross. 

The former England captain also fired into the crossbar in the 73rd minute and was denied on a counter attack in the 80th minute.

Wright-Phillips scored an overhead kick and now has 19 league goals this season

He had a corner kick in the second minute of stoppage time headed off a post as DC were denied.

Wright-Phillips became the second player in MLS history to score three equalising goals in a game after Atlanta forward Josef Martinez last season, and he finished with his first hat trick since May 28, 2016. 

He scored in the 41st minute with a bicycle-kick off a rebound, rolled in his second in the 76th and redirected a cross for his third. 

Rooney has flourished since leaving Everton to join the MLS side this summer

Wright-Phillips now has 19 league goals, second only to Martinez's 28.

Paul Arriola scored DC United's first goal and Luciano Acosta put the hosts ahead with an individual effort in the 87th minute.

New York (17-7-5) are 8-1-5 against DC United (9-11-8) since the start of the 2015 season.

The 32-year-old could have had a brace but hit the crossbar in the second half

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
