Southwest Airlines employees set up a ‘whites only’ break room and hung a noose at a Houston airport, it has been alleged.

The allegation was made in a lawsuit against the Houston-based company filed in federal court by Jamel Parker, a black former employee who says he was fired because of his race.

‘You would think in 2018 it doesn't happen, but it does,’ Parker, a resident of Harris County, Texas, told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday.

Parker alleges that he was fired for a minor offense for which white employees normally receive a slap on the wrist.

The company declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations.

‘We do not tolerate or condone discrimination of any kind, and we cultivate a workplace that mirrors the customers we serve,’ the airline said.

‘Southwest Airlines is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prides itself on an open and inclusive work environment that consistently ranks among the world's best places to work.’

Parker, 31, first started working for AirTran Airways as a ramp agent in September 2008.

In 2013, AirTran and Southwest merged, making Parker an employee of Southwest.

After the merger, his supervisor at Southwest, who is also black, warned him about a breakroom.

‘“It's just best to avoid that”, is basically what he said,’ Parker said.

The ‘WB’ or ‘white break room’ was allegedly known to the company’s black employees.

The lawsuit alleges that company executives also knew about it.

Parker alleges in the lawsuit that the breakroom ceased to exist either in 2016 or 2017, when renovations turned it into a supervisor office.

In April 2017, Parker was fired by the company.

He says the firing came after he caused damage to a tow bar attached to a pushback vehicle, which is used to push an aircraft away from a gate.

The company declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations. ¿We do not tolerate or condone discrimination of any kind, and we cultivate a workplace that mirrors the customers we serve,¿ the airline said. Southwest planes are seen at Houston Hobby Airport in 2015

Parker says that he was fired for failing to report the damage.

Before his firing, he claims that he had only received a minor disciplinary comment for not wearing a seatbelt.

Parker alleges that white employees who made similar errors were given a letter of instruction and allowed to keep their jobs.

‘Southwest is quick to fire blacks while whites are given lesser discipline and chances to improve conduct,’ the lawsuit alleges.

After Parker was fired, a noose was found hanging at gate 45 at Houston Hobby Airport, the lawsuit alleges.

Parker claims he learned of the noose on a private Facebook page used by employees.

He is now seeking damages from the company, including lost wages.

Since his dismissal, Parker has been working as an Uber driver. He said he would like to go back to work for Southwest because the company offered him good benefits and flexible hours.

He said he wants his lawsuit to affect change.

‘If you want something to change, don't be afraid to fight,’ he said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
