«Breaking Pic News» Ex-Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz slams likely choice of Granit Xhaka as captain of Switzerland

Stephane Henchoz believes Granit Xhaka should not be named Switzerland captain once Stephan Lichtsteiner retires.

The Arsenal midfielder is among the leading candidates to replace his club colleague as captain of the national team, when Lichtsteiner decides to call it a day.

Xhaka has represented Switzerland 66 times, scoring 10 goals in the process and is seen as one of the country's most influential players.

But former Liverpool defender Henchoz has slammed the likely choice of Xhaka - who comes from a Kosovan Albanian family - as captain as he doesn't 'represent Switzerland'.

Henchoz told Blick, a Swiss-German language daily newspaper: 'He's a regular player at Arsenal, but I think a captain must represent Switzerland and the team. Xhaka doesn't.' 

And when asked how he would feel if Switzerland continued with the likes of Vladimir Petkovic - born in Sarajevo - at the helm and Xhaka as captain, he said: 'This would be a real problem.

'Players like (Yann) Sommer, Lichtsteiner or (Fabian) Schar, who represent traditional Switzerland, could feel excluded, just like fans who might not be able to identify with the team. 

'The Swiss players without a migration background and Swiss fans, they would feel marginalised.'

Meanwhile, Switzerland take on Iceland at home in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday before facing England three days later.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
