«Breaking News» Zoe Ball 'set to take over from Chris Evans on Radio Show as she is chosen for role over Sara Cox'

Chris Evans announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the Radio 2 Breakfast Show to rejoin rival station Virgin.

And Zoe Ball has been tipped as his successor, with The Sun reporting on Sunday that she is in 'advanced negotiations' to take over the role.

The publication revealed that the presenter, 47, is expected to sign a contract within a fortnight, which she has seemingly won the role over Sara Cox.

Zoe currently hosts BBC Radio 2's Saturday afternoon slot, and the move would see her receive a significant pay rise.

But the presenter is said to be figuring out how she will do the job whilst also taking care of her children, who she lives with in Brighton.

Sara had been given Chris' seal of approval, and had been open to the idea of moving from her 10pm slot to his, but it seems she is now the back-up option.

But Zoe seems to have been chosen for her popularity as the host for Strictly Come Dancing's after show It Takes Two.

Evans, who is expecting twins in the autumn with his wife, told stunned listeners that he was off to 'start a brand new adventure.'

Just an hour and a half after the shock announcement, it emerged that he will be rejoining Virgin Radio to host the breakfast show.

It is not clear how much money his new contract with Virgin will be worth, but experts predict he could see his salary boosted to somewhere near the £2million mark.

Evans' £1.6million BBC pay packet makes him the second highest earner at the corporation after Gary Lineker.

But his salary this year was down on the £2.2million he was paid in the year to April 2017, because he had hosted the newly revamped Top Gear before quitting after one series because of plunging ratings.

Despite the fact that Evans is quitting to join a rival, a Radio 2 insider insisted that he was going with the station's blessing, and they were aware of his plans before the announcement was made.

The insider revealed: 'His decision to go to Virgin is not something we have just heard about. We were aware of it. It is very amicable.

'We support Chris 100%. As Chris stated, he wants to seek new challenges after 13 years at the BBC, and we wish him well.'

Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson said in a tweet that he was 'very excited' he would be returning to Virgin Radio, having previously hosted its breakfast show from 1997 to 2001.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
