«Breaking News» Steven Davis reveals talks with Southampton manager Mark Hughes over lack of game-time this season

Steven Davis has spoken to Southampton manager Mark Hughes about his lack of first-team action this season.

Davis's only appearance has come in the Carabao Cup win over Brighton, with the Northern Ireland skipper only making the bench in two of the opening four Premier League games after recovering from a hamstring injury over the summer.

Speaking ahead of the Nations League clash with Bosnia at Windsor Park on Saturday, the 33-year-old midfielder admitted that it has been a frustrating time and he has spoken to Hughes about his situation.

'It's quite open and we've had a chat,' said Davis. 'I played in a cup game the other night and obviously it was good to get 90 minutes under the belt and I look forward to getting stuck into the games here as well.

'Ultimately it's frustration, as it is for any player who isn't playing. That's the aim every week when you go to training and get yourself ready to play on a Saturday. But things in football can change very quickly as well.

'Obviously I am coming off the back of the second half of last season where I was injured but the main focus during the summer and pre-season was getting myself right and fit. The body is feeling good and I am ready to go. I know what qualities are needed.'

Davis is determined to lead Northern Ireland to a winning start against Bosnia as they looked to win promotion from a League B group that also includes Austria.

'It does help you straightaway if you can do that,' he added. 'Then you've a small number of games but you're in a good position early on.

'We will have a big test tomorrow against a couple of top-class players so we are looking forward to testing ourselves against the best, but we want to make our own home games a fortress as we have done.

'We've spoken a few times about how difficult it was in the early days and to get consistency. Obviously, we've had a couple of big scalps which gave us belief. The last couple of years of my international career have been the most enjoyable.

'We spoke about that already and that was the challenge after the Euros. Could we continue that on? That's the challenge for us again.

'Can we go and set those standards again and keep that feel-good factor going? I believe the squad is as strong as it has been in recent times.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
