«Breaking News» Meghan Markle hails London’s diversity at launch of charity cookbook

Meghan has hailed London's diversity as she launches her charity cookbook supporting families affected by the devastating Grenfell Tower fire.

The Duchess of Sussex, 37, said she was 'so proud' to live in the British capital as she delivered a three-minute speech without any notes at the launch event at Kensington Palace today.

She described how the charity cookbook was a 'labour of love' and a 'passion project' that she had been working on with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen for the past nine months.

The Together: Our Community Cookbook, which is available in stores from today, is Meghan's first solo project as a member of the royal family.

Meghan, who was joined by mother Doria and husband Prince Harry at the event, looked stylish in a pleated skirt by designer friend Misha Nonoo, which she paired with a black high-neck top.

She finished off her polished ensemble with a £956 blue coat from Canadian brand Smythe over the top as she arrived at the event, along with a pair of black heels.

Addressing the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen at the event today, Meghan said: 'I'm so privileged to know you. Working on this project for the past nine months has been a tremendous labour of love.

'I have just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen, by your kindness and to be in this city and be in this room and see how multi-cultural it was.

'On a personal level I feel so proud to live in a city with so much diversity. This whole country is represented by the people in the kitchen. It's pretty outstanding.'

During the speech, the Duchess also thanked the women for letting her work with them on the project - describing how it 'took a village' to realise her vision.

'There's so many people to thank - I'm extremely grateful because this is my first project and I appreciate your support,' she said.

'It truly took a village to see this through. Everyone has embraced this so fully because it has been a passion project for us all.'

The Duchess also emphasised the fact that the project was 'more than a cookbook', adding that the 'power of food' is the 'story behind it'.

'When you get to know the story behind the recipe, you get to know the person behind it and help us celebrate what connects us rather than divides us. That is the ethos of Together,' she continued.

'Thank you so much for letting me be part of this and letting me be on this adventure with you and I'm so excited to see the projects we will continue to do in your community and also how you will inspire people globally by sharing your stories and your recipes,' she said.

'It's so impactful. You can see that in just a few days alone what's happened and the book's not out yet.

'What you have been able to do is a testament to what that means to people. I'm so proud of you.

'So on that note I know that some of you have started eating, as you should. I'd be the last one to want to let the food get cold so please enjoy your beautiful lunch and give another round of applause for the Hubb Community Kitchen.'

MEGHAN'S SPEECH IN FULL

I'm so privileged to know you. Working on this project for the past nine months has been a tremendous labour of love. I have just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen, by your kindness and to be in this city and be in this room and see how multi-cultural it was.

There's so many people to thank - I'm extremely grateful because this is my first project and I appreciate your support. It truly took a village to see this through. Everyone has embraced this so fully because it has been a passion project for us all.

As I said this is more than a cook book and what I mean by that is the power of food is more than just the meal itself it is the story behind it. And when you get to know the story behind the recipe, you get to know the person behind it and help us celebrate what connects us rather than divides us. That is the ethos of Together.

Thank you so much for letting me be part of this and letting me be on this adventure with you and I’m so excited to see the projects we will continue to do in your community and also how you will inspire people globally by sharing your stories and your recipes. It's so impactful. You can see that in just a few days alone what's happened and the book's not out yet.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
