«Breaking News» Lisa Wilkinson reveals the ONE question Serena Wilkinson refused to answer

Serena Williams sat down for an interview with Australian presenter Lisa Wilkinson just three days after her antics at the US Open Grand Final made international news.

And while the world number 16 agreed to discuss the on-court drama, there was one questions that was strictly off-limits.

On Sunday, Lisa revealed that she was warned prior to her sit-down that Serena would walk out if she mentioned the controversial cartoon of the sportswoman that was drawn by Australian artist Mark Knight.

The cartoon, depicting Serena's Grand Final actions, was published in The Herald Sun on September 11th before it was widely condemned as 'racist'.

Speaking on The Sunday Project, Lisa explained: 'I was told in no uncertain terms that if I asked about the Mark Knight cartoon, Serena would get up and walk. There would be no ifs or buts. She did not want to discuss it.

'I know that would make great tabloid TV, to have a walk-off from Serena Williams, but I was actually more interested in her answers to the US Open questions.'

During the interview, which screened in full on The Sunday Project, Serena answered questions about her on-court antics at the US Open Women's Final a fortnight ago.

'Your coach admitted that he was coaching from the sideline so, in retrospect, do you think that makes the violation warranted?' Lisa asked the tennis champion.

Serena replied: 'I just don't understand what he was talking about... We don't have signals, we've never have signals. He said he made a motion, so I was like, "Okay, you made a motion and now you're telling people you were coaching me? That doesn't make sense, why would you say that?"'

'We don't have signals, we've never have signals': Serna told Lisa she was confused by her coach's admission that he was coaching her from the stands

'So you had to have a fairly tough conversation with him afterwards?' Lisa then asked.

'Yes, because we've never had this before. I was on the other side, I didn't see the motion. It was just a really confusing moment, I think for him. You know, I was like "It's okay... but, like, don't, yeah..."' Serena trailed off.

Lisa continued to question the tennis star, stating: 'You then smashed your racket. Do you regret that at all?'

At that point, the sports legend looked over to her publicist who told Lisa: 'Sorry, that's four question about the US Open, so can you change topics?'

'I'm in your hands, Serena. I'm totally in your hands,' Lisa said, before stating: 'If I could just do one more...'

The TV presenter then referenced former tennis star Billie Jean King who had come out in support of Serena's push for gender equality on the tennis court.

Serena looked reluctant, before replying: 'Um, I, honestly, am just always supportive of women, no matter what. That's how I've always been. And I feel like Billie Jean King has done the same thing, with starting the tour and creating opportunities, for me, to play.'

She continued: 'Even a man, if you want to express yourself in a way where you're not using profanity, or you're just being yourself and you're at this moment that you've worked for since you three years old and you're on the cusp of this amazing moment.'

'If you're female you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do, and I feel like right now we are not, as it's proven, in that same position. But that's neither here nor there, I'm just trying to recover from that and just move on'.

During the interview, there was no reference to Naomi Osaka, Serena's 20-year-old opponent who trounced the tennis legend in straight sets during the US Open Final.

The Japanese-Haitian tennis star, who is now ranked world number seven, accepted her trophy in tears after booing from the crowd.

On ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
