«Breaking News» How to score free family flights overseas: The hacks to save thousands on flights without spending

Have you ever wondered how you and your family can score free flights overseas without spending a cent?

A study conducted by Point Hacks, an Australian independent platform, found there are numerous ways for frequent flyers to boost their point earnings.

They analysed Qantas Frequent Flyer program, Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyer program, and Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer program and have the tips to help you earn enough points for a family of four free return flights to Fiji, Thailand or Bali.

'The first step to achieving the required points is to set up your strategy,' Daniel Sciberras, Point Hacks' frequent flyer expert said.

'You should join your chosen rewards program, assess the credit cards that will earn you the most points – keeping in mind the annual fees.

'Fiji, Thailand and Bali are some of the best travel destinations to get awards flights for, as the points requirements are relatively low and flights are generally available.'

For a family of four, return award economy flights from Sydney or Melbourne to these island destinations will set you back from around 145,000 to 225,000 points, depending on the points program and destination.

Mr Sciberras said it is important to get the whole family involved in earning points as it helps boost your earnings when everyone is on board

Mr Sciberras said it is important to get the whole family involved in earning points as it helps boost your earnings when everyone is on board.

'Get your whole household involved in leveraging your normal household spending into point earnings over the next six months. Then use any combination of our hacks to boost your points further.

'Be aware that you can earn the required points in six months, but the transfer of those points into airline rewards may take another month.'

Top 10 hacks to earn a family of four a free return flight to Fiji, Thailand or Bali by next February-March:

1. Involve the whole family through points pooling and supplementary cards.

2. Switch to a rewards credit card with a 75,000 bonus points offer? The NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card and the St. George Amplify Signature Visa card each offer 90,000 bonus Qantas Points for new cardholders. The Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card offers up to 80,000 bonus Velocity Points on sign up.

3. Look for higher-earning credit cards. AMEX tends to offer the highest point-earning cards. Every $1 spent on the AMEX Explorer Credit Card can transfer you up to 1.5 Velocity Points or KrisFlyer Miles.

4. Consider an everyday transaction account that earns points. Choose a transaction account to have your pay deposited into, and for everyday debit transactions.

5. Join a shopping rewards program. A rewards program such as flybuys will earn you further points for your everyday shopping. Swipe your flybuys card at retailers such as Coles, Target, eBay, Kmart and Liquorland.

6. Consider switching to an airline rewards super fund or insurance policy. The Virgin Money Super fund earns members 1 Velocity Point for every $5 in super contributions, capped at 250,000 points.

7. Earn points just for getting home delivery. Love takeaway? Use Deliveroo for the first time, and you'll earn 1000 Qantas Points.

8. Earn points on your household energy usage. Switch your household energy plan to Energy Australia through the Velocity program and earn up to 10,000 points, then 2000 anniversary points each year.

9. Do your shopping through partner retailers. Qantas has partnerships with retailers such as Woolworths, BWS, BIG W and selected Caltex Woolworths service stations to earn you points on spend there.

10. Click through Qantas Mall and Velocity eStore to your favourite online shopping sites. Qantas Mall and Velocity eStore offer high point earnings on every dollar spent on numerous popular sites such as eBay, David Jones, Woolworths, Country Road, Priceline Pharmacy, Menulog and Cotton On.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
