«Breaking News» Friend Jason Hairston shock at suicide

Tragic entrepreneur Jason Hairston had appeared ‘normal’ on his final hunt in Alaska, friends have told DailyMail.com, and had intended to go on to a sheep hunt before canceling at the last moment.

Instead, he returned home to Dixon, California, where he was found dead on Tuesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was just 47.

Friend Rick Young, 60, of Boring, Oregon, who first met Hairston in 2003, said he would be remembered for the impact he made on the sporting apparel industry and described the father-of-two as a ‘super nice guy’.

Young told DailyMail.com: ‘We hit it off pretty good. Super nice guy. Obviously, he was in a sports-driven industry and his hunting passion was phenomenal.

‘What’s great about Jason for me is that his is a true American story of a guy just doing what he wants to do. That’s what it came down to.’

Hairston had spent his final days on a hunting trip with his father Michael and his son Cash. Young said he seemed to be totally fine with other hunters in their party.

‘When he was at the caribou hunt last week, you would never have guessed he had a problem, ever,’ Young said.

‘My friend was with him in camp, was with him on the airplane up there, and everything was normal. He would talk to people – my buddy did not know there was a single issue.

‘He did good. He engaged, he was active, he didn’t hide in a back room. He was all in.’

Although a spokesman for his hunting apparel business Kuiu confirmed that Hairston took his own life to DailyMail.com on Friday, no reason for his suicide has been given.

He is thought to have been suffering from a degenerative brain disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy [CTE] – a condition he first spoke about having publicly in 2016.

The illness is thought to stem from his previous career as a successful NFL player with the San Francisco 49-ers and the Denver Broncos.

CTE, which can only be positively diagnosed post mortem, slowly destroys brain cells and produces symptoms that include behavioral issues, mood swings and cognitive problems.

The condition is prevalent among former NFL players, among them New York Jets star Mark Gastineau and Frank Gifford – the latter diagnosed conclusively after his death in 2015.

Young told DailyMail.com: ‘Something was making him not function normal and he knew it and he put up with it for a long time, probably affecting the business.

‘He certainly had something going on. He had a mental disorder that those close to him were aware of. I can’t say for sure but it’s my assumption that that’s what caused it [the suicide].’

Hairston’s family have asked that donations be made to support CTE-related research at the Boston University Concussion Legacy Foundation in lieu of sending flowers.

He is not thought to have suffered from financial problems and his hunting apparel company Kuiu is estimated to have a turnover of around $50m per year.

The 47-year-old is survived by his wife Kirstyn and their two children: Cash and Coco.

Kirstyn was too upset to speak when approached at her home in Dixon on Thursday but a relative told DailyMail.com that the family are now asking to be given space to grieve in private.

At Kuiu headquarters nearby, staff said they had been informed of the death but had not been given further details.

One told DailyMail.com that he had been ‘a nice guy’ who was pleasant to work for but who rarely mentioned his previous football career or his famous friends such as Donald Trump Jr.

Don Jr and Hairston are thought to have been close for several years and enjoyed a hunting trip to Canada together in August.

He paid tribute to Hairston via a post on Instagram after learning of his death, writing: 'Jason, I have no words.

‘I will always remember our adventures and sharing a campfire with you. They will be some of my fondest experiences in the outdoors.

‘You were and will continue to be an inspiration to all outdoorsmen and women for generations to come. Thanks for the friendship and the memories buddy. I’m going to miss you.'

Young said his friend had been a ‘respectful’ man who was devoted to hunting and an impressive businessman who had fought his way to the top.

He told DailyMail.com: ‘I don’t know that I would say he was charming but I would say he was aggressive, he knew what he wanted, he didn’t know how to get there but he figured it out.

‘He had the personality to keep it going. He wasn’t like one of those guys who when you get there everyone else is below you, he didn’t have time for you – he wasn’t that guy.

‘He was appreciative of everybody that got him there. I don’t think that’s charming, I think that’s respectful. He was respectful of the industry and the Second Amendment.’

Although no funeral arrangements have been announced yet, Young, who runs a hunting equipment company called Rick Young Outdoors, said Hairston will be remembered ‘for a long time to come’ in their industry.

He said: ‘I think they’ll remember him as an entrepreneur that opened everybody’s eyes to a product that just wasn’t available.

‘He affected everybody in the country who hunts and fishes. He will be remembered for a very long time, no question about it.’

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
