Brewer Jim Brauer was killed off on Sunday's episode of Fear The Walking Dead as he heroically threw himself to his death to help Morgan Jones's group of survivors.
His altruistic act allowed for their escape and ensured his beloved beer recipe would live on.
Infected Jim made the sacrifice after Morgan told him he could still choose the way to die after he was recently fatally bitten in the back.
Master brewer: Jim Brauer, played by Aaron Stanford, sacrificed himself for the group on Sunday's episode of Fear The Walking Dead
The penultimate episode in the season, entitled I Lose People, kicked off with Morgan, Sarah, June, Wendell, Lucy and Jim still stuck on the hospital roof.
Morgan could not figure out how to get the group out of trouble and Jim would not let him forget he had caused their trouble.
'I see that bite really brought out the best in you,' said Sarah as Wendell asked if he could dispatch Jim when he became a walker.
At the lake John and Strand were found by Alicia and Charlie, who radioed in their discovery.
Roof dilemma: Morgan Jones and his group were stuck on the roof of a hospital
Rocky relationships: Sarah and Wendell continued to bicker with infected Jim
Morgan told Alicia they were trapped and she said she would come for them after she rescued the men.
She left to find a boat but John lost any optimism they would return.
Strand urged him to stay positive and said that if Charlie and Alicia could work together after everything Charlie took from her then it was still possible.
Finally found: John and Strand were found by Alicia and Charlie, who radioed in their discovery
Things looked bad when Martha overheard their radio conversations and was seen tracing her finger over a map.
Back on the roof Jim stood on the ledge and looked over as if ready to throw himself to the walkers down below.
Morgan tried to stop him and Jim assured him he just needed the bathroom.
Looking down: Jim stood on the ledge high above the walkers
'I figure if I can't go down and kill some of those things then p***ing on them's the only F-U I've got,' said Jim.
Jim refused to help Morgan and the rest rescue Al and was described by Sarah as an 'unpleasant jag-off who fills every room he steps into with a philosophical fart'.
'You can't do anything about the fact you're going to die Jim, but you can decide how you're going to go,' Morgan told him.
Big decision: Morgan told Jim that he could decide how he was going to die
Sarah did not attempt to change his mind but told Jim she wanted his beer recipe before he became a zombie.
Jim was not playing ball and told her to 'go to hell.'
Alicia and Charlie found a canoe but as they tried to retrieve it Martha arrived and started shooting at them.
Under attack: Alicia and Charlie came under attack by Martha while looking for a boat to rescue John and Strand
When Alicia saw Martha was hurt she offered to help.
'I don't need help, I'm not weak,' she shouted at them but before she could get to them Martha collapsed.
Back at the hospital Morgan, Luciana, June, Wendell and Sarah took the elevator back down and found the walkers trapped by a collapsed ceiling.
Not weak: Martha after being apprehended by Alicia insisted that she was 'not weak'
Zombies everywhere: The hospital was surrounded by zombies
Pouring in: The walkers piled up on each other as they were trapped by a collapsed ceiling
The group found a string of dead walkers and a message to them from Al in the generator room.
The message said Al was heading to the freight elevator and Wendell noticed that the generator was running out of fuel.
Back at the lake John's outlook improved as Alicia and Charlie drove through the water in Al's tank, with Martha as a passenger.
Nice ride: Alicia and Charlie pulled up in Al's tank to retrieve John and Strand
Head shot: Luciana took out a zombie with an axe
John radioed Morgan to tell him of Martha's condition but June picked up instead and he told her they were coming to help them.
Martha came round and Alicia told her she wanted to leave her for dead on the side of the road.
She told Alicia that she should have and that when she saw Morgan again he would thank her.
Road kill: Alica told Martha that she wanted to leave her for dead on the side of the road
At the hospital Morgan dragged a walker to the edge of the roof and threw it off onto a car, setting of the alarm and drawing in other walkers.
Morgan's group headed for an ambulance parked outside the hospital but June stopped to radio him and urged him to leave.
He told her she had to go and that he had 'things I've gotta make up for' and helping them escape 'maybe could make up for something.'
Making up: Morgan urged everyone to leave as he had to make up for some things
As the walkers closed in June and the group were forced to leave.
But Jim was not impressed and continued to guilt-trip Morgan as they sat on the roof.
June radioed Morgan back and told him they were going to save him.
Guilt trip: Jim continued to guilt-trip Morgan over his condition
Morgan told them he could find his own way to safety but John interrupted him and the group told him they needed him.
Then they returned with a working fire engine ladder which they raised to its maximum.
But it was not enough and Morgan found rope to lower himself down to the crane.
Big leap: Morgan leaped off the building to a crane
Jim refused to join him and Morgan lowered himself.
It was going well until a walker crashed through the window and attacked Morgan before it was taken out by sharpshooter John from below.
Morgan jumped down to the crane and was lowered to the ground but they could not escape as they were surrounded by walkers.
Walker attack: A walker attacked Morgan on a ledge
Nice shot: John took out the zombie with his pistol
He offered to lead away the walkers but it was Jim who had a dramatic change of heart.
'Morgan you told me I get to chose how I go and I think this beats p***ing in the wind,' said Jim.
He then gave Sarah his beer recipe and threw himself off the roof to the floor below, setting off another car alarm.
Beer recipe: Jim decided to throw himself off the building to distract the walkers
She's listening: Sarah eagerly accepted the beer recipe
On paper: She wrote down the beer recipe that Jim believed in strongly
With that distraction the group escaped back to Al's tank where they found Martha had escaped.
The group then drove away from the hospital and asked about the name they would give to Jim's beer and where they should head next.
Morgan told them about Alexandria and said they should find Al and head to Virginia.
Major distraction: The zombies were distracted by the car alarm
Next place: Morgan suggested they head to Alexandria
Back at the hospital Martha found Jim and wrote his last words on his face - his beer recipe.
The episode ended with Martha telling walker Jim they were going to make Morgan 'strong.'
The season four finale of Fear The Walking Dead will air on Sunday on AMC.
AMC in July renewed FTWD for a fifth season.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
