«Breaking News» Cher speaks about her surprising battle with stage fright

She's been performing for more than fifty years.

So it may be a surprise to learn that pop icon Cher is terrified of taking to the stage.

The 72-year-old made the shock admission in an interview with The Herald Sun on Tuesday, saying: 'I always have had stage fright; not enough to not to do it but always enough that causes a certain amount of turmoil'.

Despite the anxiety that performing causes her, Cher said that she has been able to use it to her advantage.

'If you harness it (the stage fright), it works for you,' she explained.

The Believe hit-maker's surprise disclosure comes less than a week after she spoke to Confidential about her childhood growing up in California.

'I felt like an outsider when I was growing up. I didn't really fit in. I didn't really want to try to fit in,' Cher told the publication.

She added: 'You never really forget it, no matter how successful you become. No matter what, you always have empathy and know what it is like to feel different.'

The singer had just arrived in Australia for her Here We Go Again tour - her first tour of the country since 2005.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
