«Breaking News» More than half of commuters feel anxious about travelling to work

If your morning rail commute leaves you feeling anxious and irritable, it seems you’re not alone.

Almost half of those who travel to work by train are frequently stressed by delayed journeys, a survey shows.

Issues caused by disrupted services include missing time with family and friends, being told off at work for tardiness and additional childcare costs.

The poll conducted by consumer group Which? found 4 per cent have moved house as a result of rail disruption.

Alex Hayman, of Which?, said: ‘It is shocking that a modern transport system is allowed to have such a negative impact on the people who rely on it every day.

'Its failures are affecting people’s health and employment, and some are even forced to move home as a result.’

Train punctuality slumped to a 13-year low last year because of strikes, new timetables, signal failures and bad weather.

One in seven trains were delayed by at least five minutes in the 12 months to December 8 – the worst performance since September 2005.

Separate research indicated that, over the last year, distrust of the rail industry has grown from 27 per cent to 32 per cent.

Despite increasing frustration with the industry, rail bosses insist they are improving the network to reduce delays.

Robert Nisbet, of industry body the Rail Delivery Group, said: ‘We want people to have punctual, stress-free journeys.

‘We’re rebuilding key parts of the network and putting thousands of new and refurbished carriages on track to make journeys more comfortable.’

The Department for Transport has commissioned a review by former British Airways chief executive Keith Williams to consider all parts of the rail industry.

Mr Hayman said the Government review must listen to passengers who have ‘too often been an afterthought’ if it wants to restore faith in the system.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
