«Breaking News» Colin Powell shares heartwarming story of war veteran stopping to help him change a flat tire

Colin Powell has told how a hero war veteran who lost his leg in Afghanistan stopped to help him change a flat tire and 'reminded him about what this country is all about'.

The former Secretary of State, 81, posted on Facebook about the incident after breaking down in Maryland on the way to a hospital appointment.

Powell said he is a 'car guy' but admitted he was struggling as 'it was cold outside and the lug bolts were very tight'.

He said that Anthony Maggert stopped to help him after recognizing the retired four-star general by the side of the road on the Interstate 495.

Retired general Powell, 81, wrote: 'I jacked the car up and got several of the bolts removed when a car suddenly pulled up in front of me. As the man got out of his car I could see that he had an artificial leg.

'He said he recognized me and wanted to help me. We chatted and I learned that he lost his leg in Afghanistan when he worked over there as a civilian employee.'

Mr Powell, on his way to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, said he didn't get the man's name or address at the time but that Mr Maggert later wrote to him, calling the former politician 'an inspiration, a leader and statesman'.

Anthony wrote: 'Gen. Powell, I hope I never forget today because I'll never forget reading your books. You were always an inspiration, a leader and statesman. After 33 years in the military you were the giant whose shoulders we stood upon to carry the torch to light the way and now it is tomorrow's generation that must do the same.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
