«Breaking News» Woman gravely wounded credits dog for saving her life

A woman from Pennsylvania survived a vicious bear attack on Wednesday with the help pet chihuahua named Bear.

Investigators say Melinda Lebarron was outside her home with her dog when the bear grabbed her leg and dragged her more than 80 yards from the back porch of her home in Lycoming County.

She was able to get back into the house and was able to contact a neighbor who called 911.

Friends said Lebarron suffered broken bones and deep wounds as a result of the bear attack Wednesday night outside Muncy.

She survived but is listed in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center.

Bear, who is a female dog, is currently being treated at the Susquehanna Trail Animal Hospital for a broken sternum, punctured lung and a number of external wounds, according to Lebarron's daughter-in-law Cheyenne.

Cheyenne Lebarron said Melinda told her from her sick bed that her pet dog is the reason she survived the horrific attack.

She told The Daily Item: 'We don’t know why it happened. No one was home and she isn’t able to speak at the moment.

'We are able to ask questions and she can respond by motions. We asked if the dog went after the bear to protect her and if that is the reason she is still with us, and she nodded. That dog is the reason she’s alive'.

It is not known how the dog managed to fight off the bear but Cheyenne claimed Melinda will be able to provide more information when her condition improves.

She said of the dog: 'Bear is doing remarkable considering the situation. She lost a lot of blood and has been under some pretty strong pain killers since but the vet today said she is alert, sitting up on her own and doing great'.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Lebarron was outside with her dog when the bear attacked.

Game Warden Chris Krebs believes a black bear dragged Lebarron approximately 88 yards from her home.

'She was able to get away and call for help and the Game Commission is currently investigating why the bear attacked.

'We're looking into the circumstances of how that occurred, why that occurred, and trying to identify the particular bear that may have been involved.

'Pennsylvania's rifle deer season just ended and there were deer parts in close proximity,' Krebs said.

The warden set a trap to capture the bear and will euthanize it once caught. According to the Game Commission, Lycoming County is part of Pennsylvania's core black bear range.

'Black bears are very common in the area and there are a lot of black bears in the area'.

Game wardens claim that black bears don't often attack people unless there is some kind of motivation for an attack. Usually, they are more of a nuisance.

The family has started a GoFundMe account for Melinda and a separate page was set up to help offset medical treatment for Bear.

Game wardens said the best way to prevent bears from coming around is to take away food sources from outside your house.

'Take efforts to secure things like household garbage. You want to avoid bird feeding if you have bears in the area,' Krebs added.

Many people on GoFundMe praised the dog for trying to protects its owner.

Alison C Milne wrote: 'Bear deserves the best care for being so brave or stupid. I can't decide which.

Robin Richard added : 'This brave little dog deserves the best of care, she & her mama are in our prayers until healthy &reunited'.

It is thought that the attack was as horrific as the attack which occurred in the 2015 film called The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

In the movie DiCaprio's character Hugh Glass is mauled and left to die from his injuries in a forest.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
