New York Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says her interns and staffers will all make a living wage, and she is pushing for her constituents to follow suit.
In a fiery series of tweets, Ocasio-Cortez shamed lawmakers for not doing enough to ensure interns are paid a workable wage across the board.
And, she insinuates that by not paying interns, her colleagues are stopping people who are not from rich families from being able to participate in government careers.

She shared a tweet that there are no apartments under $1,000-a-month on Capitol Hill- something that an intern making 'zero dollars' would of not be able to afford without financial backing from their families.
Essentially she says, it only allows those that are rich enough, to come work for free as an intern on Capitol Hill.
Ocasio-Cortez also shared that she went to a local dive bar in D.C. and found underpaid staffers from the Hill working second jobs just to work their day jobs in Congressional offices.
'It is unjust for Congress to budget a living wage for ourselves, yet rely on unpaid interns & underpaid overworked staff' to help Congressmen and women she wrote.
She also gave insight into congressional budgeting saying that each member gets a $20,000 budget for interns.
She added it is unjust for Congress to budget their own living wages and rely on unpaid and underpaid workers to help carry the load of the offices they work for.
A study out last year, according to the HuffPost says that only 51 per cent of Republican senators offer paid internships and just 31 per cent of Democrats do.
The House interns fare much worse with only 8 per cent of Republican interns who are paid and an abysmal 3.6 per cent of Democrats interns are.
In September Congress approved a spending bill that set aside $14million for the lawmakers to pay their interns with $8.8million for the House and $5million for the Senate.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
