«Breaking News» Indonesia says at least one dead, 60 buried after landslide causes illegal gold mine to collapse

More than 60 people are feared buried by the collapse of an illegal gold mine in Indonesia.

One person had been found dead and 13 people rescued by 5am on Wednesday after the collapse the previous evening at the site in Bolaang Mongondow area of North Sulawesi, the country's disaster agency said in a statement.

'When dozens of people were mining for gold at the location, suddenly beams and supporting boards they used broke due to unstable land and numerous mining shafts,' disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

One body had been pulled from the rubble while 13 people have been rescued suffering a range of injuries, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The mine collapsed about 9pm local time on Tuesday.

Mr Nugroho said as many as 60 people remained buried under the landslide.

'It is estimated that there are still dozens of victims trapped in the rubble of mine excavation holes,' he said.

Rescue agency Basarnas, the Indonesian army, police and other miners are helping with the attempt to save those trapped.

Mr Sutopo said rescue teams worked through the night as authorities believe those trapped are 'amam', an Indonesian word meaning 'safe' but can also be interpreted as 'alive'.

Illegal gold mining is common in Indonesia and poorly constructed mines often collapse.

The Indonesian government has banned small-scale gold mining but regional authorities often turn a blind eye to the practice in remote areas.

The mines are prone to accidents as they have little regulation.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
