«Breaking News» Joe Alwyn says his relationship with Taylor Swift shouldn't be defined as 'strangely private'

He's a rising star thanks to his roles in The Favourite and Boy Erased, and he's also Taylor Swifts other half.

And Joe Alwyn admitted on Thursday that doesn't think that his relationship with the singer, 29, is 'strangely private' as other people have interpreted it.

Speaking in an interview in MR PORTER’s weekly digital magazine The Journal on Thursday, the actor, 27, explained: 'I don't think anyone you meet on the streets would just spill their guts out to you, and therefore why should I?

'And then that is defined as being "strangely private". Fine. But I don't think it is. I think it's normal.'

Joe has purportedly been dating the Bad Blood hitmaker for more than two years, and the pair have made it a priority to keep their private life just that.

But Taylor has been on hand to support her beau during award season, as he stars in The Favourite alongside Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, as a courtier in love with Emma's character Abigail Masham.

Describing the filming process as 'fun', Joe said of working with director Yorgos Lanthimos: 'The thing I like about it is that Yorgos has completely thrown out the textbook on what a period drama is.'

'Who knows what it was like back then? It probably wasn't as refined as we think it is, or as it's often performed. It can be quite tidy… the edges can be sanded off a bit.'

Joe first burst onto the screens in Ang Lee's Billy Lynn’s Halftime Walk in 2016, and, of the film, he admitted: 'I really do owe everything to the first film that I got, and the breaks that came with that.'

He added: 'I'm very aware that I'm very lucky that I've had these opportunities, and quickly.'

Following his lead role in the gripping drama, Joe then landed roles in Operation Finale, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Boy Erased.

It's the latter that's had the most impact on him, as the film's focus on gay conversion therapy programmes brought to light the reality of the problem in the USA.

Unbelievable: Of the film, he said 'it's just crazy' that  'those places still exist in some 36 states, and that Mike Pence is on record speaking in favour of them, is just absolutely mad'

'It's just crazy,' Joe explained. 'The fact that those places still exist in some 36 states, and that Mike Pence is on record speaking in favour of them, is just absolutely mad.'

While of taking on the role of rapist Henry Wallace, who he believes is a product of repression and homophobia, he said: 'He's kind of shiny on the outside, the all-American good guy, and then obviously kind of deeply cracked underneath. I like those contrasts.'

Joe has played a number of flawed characters in his fledgling career, but said: 'I mean, I don't feel like they're just bad, bad people. And I do think it's interesting to look at the bigger picture of why people are the way they are.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
