Yet the hard work and patience has paid off for Alan Halsall as he's been giving fans glimpses of his lavish five bedroom home in Salford - which boasts loft style bedrooms and a media room among its many desirable features.
The Coronation Street star, 36, lives in the home with five-year-old daughter Sienna-Rae who he co-parents with ex-wife and co-star Lucy Jo Hudson, and she also appears to be a fan of the furnishings as she features heavily in the interior snaps.

Alan designed the property with Lucy-Jo, and they secured planning permission in 2016, with Alan later sharing snaps of the structure and updating fans on their progress.
Now the home is finally complete and boasts towering high ceilings, open-planned living areas, a stylish grey and black colour scheme and a large top floor terrace outside the master bedroom.
When the star's dream house was completed, he took to Instagram to share a snap of the exterior that he captioned: 'Wow exactly a year to the day I moved in to this house that took nearly four years to finish from start to finish.
'So much has happened in that year, but sat here now with my princess asleep in her bed, I love this house so much #sograteful.'

Alan recently praised his friends, including many of his Coronation Street co-stars, for helping him throughout a difficult year.
Sharing a separate top nine highlights, he wrote: 'I won't deny 2018 has been a tough year for me, however I feel I have learnt so much about myself and this year more than any other has made me realise just how lucky I am to have the support of AMAZING Family & friends both at home & at work, who have been there for me whenever I've needed them & now I'm really looking forward to 2019!!'
He added: 'Happy new Year. Thank you to you all.'

Alan's post comes seven months after his separation from Lucy-Jo and little more than a month after she reportedly moved in with fellow actor Lewis Devine.
The pair met while starring in a panto adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the Theatre Royal in St Helens, Merseyside, in November 2017.
However insiders claim that despite forming an 'instant connection,' they remained friends until Lucy-Jo and Alan separated.

'Lucy-Jo and Lewis shared an instant chemistry, but obviously she was married and didn't act on it,' a source told The Sun.
'After trying for months, she and Alan called time on their marriage and something slowly developed with Lewis.'
Alan and Lucy-Jo, who met on the set of Coronation Street in 2002, previously split in March 2016, but reconciled after four months apart before separating for a second time in May.

A source said: 'It's very amicable but they've decided to go their separate ways. Alan's been joking that he's having a mid-life crisis and he went and treated himself to a brand new car five days ago. It's a difficult time for both of them.
'They're devastated the marriage is over but have vowed to stay friends. They still really care for each other.'
Lewis has since revealed that he has moved in with Lucy-Jo. He shared a snap of a candle and two crystal glasses on Instagram in November, he wrote: 'New home celebrations.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
