«Breaking News» End credits roll after 47 years on BBC's flagship 'Film' show made famous by Barry Norman

For decades it was the only way to see which blockbusters were on the way to the big screen, with the late Barry Norman’s wit bringing the trailers to life.

But long-running BBC review programme the Film Show is being canned, as the broadcaster seeks to find a new ‘approach’ to arts coverage in the age of the internet.

Film 2018 will be the final series of the show, which first aired in 1971 and was presented by Norman, who died last year, for 26 years.

He was followed by Jonathan Ross for 11 years, before Claudia Winkleman took over for a six-year stint.

It had a rotating roster of presenters since her 2016 departure.

The end of the Film Show was first reported in Radio Times magazine, but the BBC is yet to confirm any new-look film show.

A spokesman said: ‘In 2019 we will be creating an enhanced offer for lovers of film both on television and online which will be a more consistent approach across the year and will replace the Film Show.

‘We’re still working through the details and will have more news about what this will look like soon. Those interested in film can also watch and listen to other film programming across the BBC...’

Norman fronted the programme from its second series in 1972 until 1998, when he left to host a similar satellite TV show.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
