«Breaking News» Tumblr to ban ALL adult content from its site in huge porn crackdown

Tumblr has announced it will permanently ban adult content from its platform.

'Starting Dec 17, adult content will not allowed on Tumblr, regardless of how old you are,' the firm said.

The announcement comes just days after Tumblr was removed from Apple's iOS App Store over child pornography issues.

WHAT IS TUMBLR? 

Tumblr is a blogging site that sits somewhere between Twitter and a traditional blog. 

There are no length restrictions on Tumblr posts, but the culture of the site encourages short updates.

The major feature that makes Tumblr stand out is that it divides up posts by type: Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio, and Video. 

Depending on the type of post, Tumblr serves up a different template. 

Photo bloggers are particularly fond of the network, as are fashion bloggers.

The iOS app has been absent from Apple's App Store since November 16th, but the firm had refused to say why. 

CEO Jeff D'Onofrio says the firm weighed the pros and cons thoroughly before making its decision, and said users who still wanted to look at porn had 'no shortage' of other places to visit. 

It said the ban includes 'Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.'

However, it promised there were some exceptions.

'Examples of exceptions that are still permitted are exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery.

'Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.'

After December 17th, any explicit posts will be flagged and deleted by algorithms. 

Tumblr is emailing users who have posted adult content flagged by algorithms and notifying them that their content will soon be hidden from view. 

Posts with porn content will be set to private, which will prevent them from being reblogged or shared elsewhere in the Tumblr community. 

Since Tumblr was founded in 2007, it has allowed most adult content, althoug has tried to shield it from public view through Safe Mode and more stringent search filters.

However, since coming under the control of Verizon's Oath unit it has been mulling a change of direction. 

'We've given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward,' CEO Jeff D'Onofrio said in a blog post. 

'We've realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change.'

'There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community,' he said.

HOW CAN PARENTS PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN ONLINE?

A recent study found when sharing parenting advice on social media, common topics included:

• Getting kids to sleep (28 per cent)


• Nutrition and eating tips (26 per cent)


• Discipline (19 per cent)


• Daycare/preschool (17 per cent)


• Behaviour problems (13 per cent) 

These common topics of conversation often reveal key information about a child, including: name, age/date of birth, school name and even their appearance.

Whilst it may be very difficult to protect the privacy of children in the digital age, there are some things that can be done to shelter children from online dangers. 

Know your privacy settings

It is amazing how many parents leave on their Instagram location settings. Set your location settings to off if you do not want people to be able to figure out where you and your children live.

Only share with people who care

Ask yourself if all the people you're sharing your photos with really want to see them and will they protect them in a way you would.

Explore private social networks

Private social networks offer a secure way to share the pictures of your children with your family and friends.

Don't take any digital photos

Ultimately the only way to be 100 per cent sure that you don't have a digital footprint is not to have any digital photos taken but this isn't a road the vast majority of people want to go down.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
