Theresa May vowed to the almost one million Poles living in the UK today that they could stay in Britain whatever happens to her Brexit deal.
The Prime Minister is clinging to Downing Street despite her deal appearing to be doomed early in the New Year.
Welcoming Poland's PM Mateusz Morawiecki to London for a summit today, the Prime Minister said: 'You can stay, and we want you to stay'.
But Mr Morawiecki urged the citizens to return back to Poland and haled his country's 'blooming' economy.
At a press conference in the opulent Lancaster House, Mrs May repeated the message in Polish, adding: 'Tak, na pewno możecie zostać.'
Britain has made unilateral guarantees to all EU nationals living in Britain despite the stalemate over how to deliver Brexit.
Mr Morawiecki and Mrs May discussed defence and security links against the backdrop of concerns about Russia's activities. Senior ministers on both sides also took part in today's summit.

In her message to Polish expats she said: 'Almost one million Poles make their lives in Britain - the largest diaspora in the UK.
'I value the contribution the Polish community makes to our economy and our society, and am committed to ensuring the UK remains a welcoming place for Poles to live, work and study.
'Today is an opportunity to repeat my message to Polish people - you can stay, and we want you to stay.'
But her Polish counterpart also tried to woo Poles living in Britain - and urged them to return home.
He said: 'Thank you very much once again and I'm very happy about something you mentioned during your speech - our Polish diaspora here in the United Kingdom, Polish citizens who live in the UK can feel safe, can be sure that their rights and social rights included will be respected.
'This was very important for our government as this is our responsibility to make sure that our citizens - Poles who left countries and found their second home in the UK - have their rights respected.
'We are happy about the fact that they found a new home, however, as our economy is blooming, we would like to encourage our citizens to consider returning to Poland, although we respect everyone's personal choices.'
Mrs May and senior Cabinet colleagues will meet Polish counterparts to discuss defence, security and prosperity post-Brexit.
The Prime Minister said: 'Poland is one of our closest friends and allies. This partnership works for both our nations, making us safer, more prosperous and more secure.
'Throughout history, UK and Poland have stood side by side.
'We share an unwavering commitment to supporting a stable and peaceful Europe, but are also clear-eyed in recognising the threats we face and the required response.
'Today's talks will agree ambitious steps that build on the landmark joint defence and security treaty we signed in Warsaw last year, and set a course for further collaboration in the years ahead.'

Welcoming Poland’s PM Mateusz...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
