«Breaking News» Terrifying moment American couple narrowly escapes machete-wielding bandits on rural road in Kenya

A shocking video shows the moment an American couple narrowly escaped machete-wielding bandits on a rural road in Kenya.

Bryant Swenson was driving down a dirt road near Maai Mahiu, Kenya, with his wife Lauren on November 30 when the couple - who are from Utah but live currently in Nairobi - came upon a white van.

Standing behind the van - known as a matatu - were three masked men believed to have been trying to rob the vehicle.

When the Swensons approached the matatu took off, and the bandits suddenly charged the couple's Toyota Land Cruiser instead.

Bryant put the car into reverse as the men ran at them, driving backward several feet before suddenly shifting back into drive and slamming his foot into the gas pedal.

The men wildly waving machetes - known as ponga - made contact with the Cruiser just as it surged forward away and raced down the bumpy road.

Lauren can be heard asking: 'Are they still behind us?' as a passenger in the backseat confirms that the men are still on their tail.

Soon after a police vehicle caught up with the bandits, resulting in gunfire that can be heard at the end of the video.

Just as the men reached the Cruiser, Bryant put it back in drive and accelerated down the bumpy dirt road away from the group

The couple and their three children moved from Cedar City, Utah, to Nairobi, Kenya's capital, around three years ago to open a CrossFit gym.

Updating his friends back home, Bryant posted the video of the near-machete attack on Facebook on December 1.

He wrote: 'Our fitness can prepare us for life, but there are times when things happen so fast that we can only give credit to God for His protection.

'This happened yesterday on our way up to Kijabe with Shiv Simani, [Collins Monde], and [Lauren Swenson]. We came upon 3 bandits robbing a matatu. I had to back up long enough to roll my window up before passing by the guy wielding the ponga (machete.)

'The guy on the far left had a handgun, but couldn't get it out of his waistbelt in time. They chose this spot for ambush because the road is very rough, but fortunately we were in my 80 series. Also thankful for a manual transmission.

'Just before encountering the bandits, we passed two armed police on foot. The gunfire you hear at the end of the video are the cops engaging. We are thankful to have been gone before the gun battle erupted.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
