«Breaking News» Secret Service is using facial technology software outside the White House

The Secret Service is testing facial recognition software around the White House in what campaigners say is a major blow to privacy rights.

The Department of Homeland Security implanted the technology in cameras at two points around 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on November 19.

These two points are not identified in a report about the project, but it does says that one 'is in an open setting' while another 'provides a controlled flow of individuals'.

The cameras will provide a stream of images to the facial recognition software, which has been be trained to pick out secret service staff from a crowd.

Staff have volunteered for the project and consented to their pictures being uploaded into a database as 'subjects of interest'.

But everyone who passes by one of the cameras, which are able to view up to 20 yards, will have their face scanned without their direct consent.

Images captured by the camera will be checked against the saved images to determine whether or they are a match.

If the person is not deemed a match then the file will be deleted automatically, but if the person is deemed a match - even in error - their picture will be saved for analysis.

DHS admits in its report that this represents a threat to privacy and says the risk is 'not mitigated.'

'Individuals passing the cameras involved in the pilot will not be able to opt out of having their faces run against the facial recognition algorithm,' it says.

'However, individuals who do not wish to be captured by White House Complex CCTV and cameras involved in this pilot may choose to avoid the area.'

The project is set to end on August 30, 2019, at which point all saved images will be deleted, the DHS says.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which first reported on the project, said the project risks 'compromising fundamental liberties' and poses huge scope for misuse.

A spokesman said: 'Thousands of people going about their business in the busy urban area around the White House are still having their faces scanned, some of whom will likely be falsely matched to target subjects.

'The program is another blinking red light for policymakers in the face of powerful surveillance technologies that will present enormous temptations for abuse and overuse.

'Congress should demand answers about this new program and the government's other uses of face recognition.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
