A green sea turtle washed up in Cape Town has had a discarded carrier bag removed from its stomach.
Scientists believe that the turtle mistook the plastic bag for a piece of sea lettuce - which looks remarkably similar.
The 50lbs (23kg) creature was struggling to breath because of the blockage, experts found.

The turtle was found on Struisbaai beach and brought to the Two Oceans Aquarium for an X-ray after people found it was struggling to breathe.
'Suspecting a possible lung infection or pneumonia, we started with antibiotics and supportive medication', the aquarium wrote in a blog post.
'Over the next couple of days, we noticed that the turtle was becoming weaker.'
Dr Malan van Zyl from the Two Oceans Aquarium was called in to carry out an endoscopy on the turtle.
'We were able to confirm that the turtle indeed had some kind of obstruction in its oesophagus', an aquarium spokesperson wrote.
The vet removed the plastic sheet using forceps.
'In 10 days, this turtle has gone from being found on a beach, admitted to our rehabilitation facility, has had X-rays and treatment and yesterday, had a piece of a plastic bag removed from its throat', the blog post read.
'The turtle is still in critical condition.
'We are monitoring it as part of our Turtle Rehabilitation and Release Programme and will continue to administer medication and treatment as needed.'
Earlier this year a report found plastic is killing 40 per cent of young sea turtles.

Baby turtles are almost four times more likely to be killed by ingesting plastic waste compared to adults.
Not only do these animals have weaker bodies, but they also feed in offshore waters closer to the surface, which are more likely to be contaminated with large plastic items that can accumulate in their digestive tracts.
Post mortems on almost 1,000 dead turtles found more than half of the babies – and about a quarter of juveniles – had swallowed plastic, compared to just one in seven adults.

The amount of plastic in the oceans is expected to triple in just ten years, a report issued by the UK government earlier this year warned.
This key environmental problem risks being ‘out of sight, out of mind’ with more known about the surface of Mars and the Moon than the deep sea bed, it added.
The toll of plastic pollution in the sea could be 150million tonnes by 2025 – treble the 50million tonnes estimated in 2015.
Our oceans store carbon dioxide and heat while producing oxygen and food, the Foresight Future of the Sea Report stressed.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
