«Breaking News» Minibus which overturned in horror crash 'was carrying racegoers on their way from a village pub'

The minibus which overturned in the Scottish Borders killing a man was likely to have been carrying a group of racegoers, an official has said. 

The single-vehicle crash happened at 10.50am on Saturday on the A6089 between Carfraemill and Gordon, near Lauder, 23 miles from Edinburgh. 

Police Scotland said the private minibus was carrying 23 adult passengers plus the driver on a journey from Newtongrange to Kelso. 

One male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while 22 passengers and the driver were taken to hospital, police added.

According to reports, the group are believed to have been on their way from a pub in the village to Kelso Races when the tragedy occurred. 

Jonathan Garratt, the course's managing director, told the Racing Post: ‘A number of racegoers arriving at the course were talking about the accident and it seems very likely the group of people were coming to the races.’

Around 40 miles drive from Newtongrange, the track was hosting its final fixture of the year on Saturday, with races scheduled to begin at 11.45am.

Emergency services declared a major incident in the wake of the crash and the response involved the Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, NHS Scotland and Scottish Borders Council. 

The injured were taken to Borders General Hospital, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Police removed the badly damaged minibus from the scene and the road was reopened late on Saturday night as investigators probed the cause of the crash.

The road remained closed in both directions while Road Policing Officers continued to conduct collision investigations at the scene

According to Scottish Radio Station TD1, off-duty NHS staff were asked to attend work at the Borders General Hospital, while the fire service said that four fire engines had been sent to the scene. 

Chief Inspector Steven Duncan of the Lothians & Scottish Borders Police Division said: 'We're providing ongoing support to the family of the man who tragically lost his life, along with those who have been injured and their families.

'Our Road Policing Unit, together with partners, are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this.

'We'd ask anyone who may be concerned that a loved one has been affected, or anyone who could help with our investigation, to get in touch immediately via 101 and quote incident number 1369 of 29th December.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
