«Breaking News» Man accused of murdering family-of-four allegedly threatened coworker with a screwdriver

The New Jersey man who is accused of murdering his brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew allegedly had a history of making violent threats.

Paul Caneiro, 51, has made headlines after he was charged with the deaths of Keith Caneiro, 50, Jennifer Caneiro, 45, and their two children Jesse, 11, and eight-year-old Sophia.

And when Mark Bostrom saw his name and mugshot, he immediately recalled the man who allegedly threatened to kill him with a screwdriver

Bostrom, an IT consultant, was working at Citibank in 1991 when he first met Caneiro, whose firm - which he ran with Keith - was hired to install a computer system in the bank's Chicago office.

There were frequent network outages during the installation process, which Bostrom tried to joke about one night while working late with Caneiro.

'I walked over to ask him in the "notwork" was going to be up soon - teasing him since the network was not working,' Bostrom wrote in his blog.

'He was examining some blueprints and became incensed with my comment.'

'He picked a screwdriver off of a table and said, "You know, you could have a fatal accident back here" while slowly moving the screwdriver up and down.'

Bostrom was so uncomfortable with the comment that he even reported it to police.

'The message was clear,' he wrote. 'He thought he could kill me and make it look like an accident.'

Bostrom and Caneiro's relationship was 'strained' for the rest of the project, but nothing ever happened with his complaint.

Caneiro has pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder. He has also been charged with two counts of aggravated arson, one count of possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and one count of possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose.

Authorities say the murders were financially motivated after it was revealed millionaire Keith, who was the CEO of Square One, had been talking 'openly' about cutting business ties with his brother.

It has since been revealed that Keith was considering relocating to California before he was killed.

Keith had sent his resume to a classmate from Columbia University and told him he was willing to move his family across the country for the right job, according to NJ.com

Square One was once a thriving company, bringing in $5.5million in revenue by 1993 and boasting clients that included Nike and Reuters.

But the business had recently 'fallen on really tough times', according to a law enforcement source with insight into the investigation.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said the brothers also recently had a business dispute.

'Based on our investigation to date, we believe the defendant’s motive was financial in nature, stemming from his and the victim’s joint business venture that they owned and operated out of Asbury Park,' Gramiccioni said in a recent press conference.

'As a result, we have also launched a financial investigation into the business and financial dealings of the defendant.'

Authorities initially charged Caneiro with one count of arson, claiming he set fire to his own home on the same day that his brother's $1.5million house went up in flames.

When police arrived to Keith's burning home on November 20 they found him shot dead on the front lawn. Jennifer had been shot and stabbed and the children had been stabbed 'repeatedly'.

Their bodies were badly burned and it took investigative teams days to be able to get into the house to survey the damage.

Authorities believe that Caniero killed the family and then set a fire in the basement.

He then allegedly left the house - leaving the fire smoldering - and returned to his own home where he set another fire using cans of gasoline. He survived that fire along with his wife and their two adult daughters.

Prosecutors say the fire at his home was an attempted 'ruse' to make it look like he too had been targeted by a mysterious arsonist, but was also a way for Caneiro to get rid of evidence.

The blaze at Keith's house was not reported until 12.38pm. Police say it was fed for several hours by oxygen blowing through the house.

It was a neighbor who first reported the fire and saw Keith's corpse lying in his front lawn.

'Oh my god, there's blood here,' Boris Volshteyn told the emergency dispatcher. 'It's a corpse. Somebody is dead here.'

Keith and his family were laid to rest last week. All four bodies were cremated and their remains were placed in a single urn.

Family and friends of the Caneiros were seen dressed in black and tightly embracing outside the Holmdel Funeral Home as the rain misted down.

The family issued a statement thanking the community for support and asking for privacy.

'The passing of these four beautiful people was tragic, sudden and incomprehensible,' the statement read. 'Like you, we are heartbroken.'

Obituaries described Keith as an 'altruistic' person who loved his family and spending time with them.

Keith got his start working in a computer store for free, teaching himself by reading computer software manuals.

He also worked at McDonald's and Burger King to support himself and launched his company without a college degree.

Keith decided to enroll in Columbia University at the age of 42, majoring in ancient history. He returned to the school in 2016 to get his master's degree.

Around 30 former classmates in the program flew from all over the world to attend his funeral.

Keith read 'three or four books a week' and was happiest in New Jersey or Greece, where his wife's family is from, according to an obituary.

Jennifer was a college graduate and loving mother who was an 'active member' of the PTO at her children's school, her obituary reads.

'Jennifer loved to host family parties for every holiday at her home,' her obituary says, while her other passions were exercise, travel, and going back to Greece to see her family.

Their older son Jesse was a model fifth grader who 'excelled' in history and like his father, 'enjoyed technology and learning about all the functions of the latest computers, phones and watches.'

While his younger sister Sophia was a 'vibrant and enthusiastic' third grader who loved ice skating, gymnastics and the Yankees.

The Caneiro brothers were raised in Brooklyn with a third brother, Corey. Their father was a Spanish immigrant and they were brought up in a typical 'working class' environment, according to friends.

Keith was Caneiro's best man when he got married to his wife Susan in 1991 and Caneiro was in Keith's wedding party when he married his wife Jennifer.

Longtime family friend Demetris Potaminos said that Caneiro and Keith were the 'perfect brothers'.

The brothers had been working together since Keith founded the business in 1987, which grew and changed its name from Jay-Martin, a combination of the brothers' middle names, to Square One.

At some stage, they also acquired EcoStar Pest Management.

Friends and co-workers told the Times that in recent years, Caneiro was in charge of the pest management business and Keith was left to run the technology business.

They said Caneiro underwent multiple surgeries around five years ago after getting into a car accident and that it changed his behavior.

But Potamianos said Caneiro had been doing much better recently.

'If this happened two or three years ago, I would have understood it,' he said. 'But right now, Paul was doing better.'

'Everything was going in the right direction, so it's very unexplainable to me why this happened.'

Caneiro's defense lawyers claim he has been wrongly accused in the death of his brother.

'He worked with his brother Keith for 31 years and he loved his sister-in-law as if she was his sister,' his attorneys said.

'Paul Caneiro participated in the lives of Jesse and Sophia from watching them at their various events at school and spending time with them frequently.'

'The process today can begin for a search for the truth and who committed these horrendous acts.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
