The Hollywood Reporter was first to report that freshman Oscar telecast producers Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss had approached Hart about being the emcee.

The decision to give the gig to Hart comes after the Academy Awards has spent a few years facing criticism for its lack of diversity.

Rock was asked to return to host in 2016 in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite movement gaining traction.

The awards telecast that airs live on ABC is also struggling with falling ratings.

The 2018 Oscars had a record-low audience with just 26.5 million viewers tuning in, THR.com reported.

Hart has previously hosted the 2016 MTV Movie Awards along with his Central Intelligence co-star Dwayne Johnson.

And back in 2015, the Philadelphia native revealed during an appearance on ABC's Live With Kelly and Michael that he was actively campaigning to get the role of Oscars host.

‘I am so happy to say that the day has finally ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
