Based on radar imagery and video evidence, the tornado touched down south of Port Orchard shortly before 2pm, the NWS in Seattle said on Twitter.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office told local media the damage was 'catastrophic' and contained to neighborhoods east and south of a Walmart in Port Orchard.

About 50 buildings were affected, Deputy Scott Wilson told the Seattle Times. Emergency teams were unable to survey the area before nightfall on Tuesday, Wilson said.

Relief efforts kicked into high gear on Wednesday as local law enforcement has been working with emergency management partners to learn the extent of the damage.

The sheriff's office says power lines were down and roads were closed in the area.

The state of Washington averages just two and a half tornadoes per year, and December tornadoes are extremely rare, according to meteorologists.

Port Orchard is located about 15 miles west of Seattle, across Puget Sound on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Anastaisia Zunk, whose home had its roof completely torn off by the tornado, posted photos of her damaged home on a GoFundMe page set up to help her family cover repair costs.

The description on the page, which has raised more that $3,200 in just 14 hours, reads: 'The hope is to ease this family's worries during this difficult time during the holiday season. Everything in the house has been destroyed due to the storm following the tornado.

'It's gonna be a while to re-build and to get the family back in the house, so anything helps.'

Emily Silverman told local TV station KOMO-TV she was driving to a store with her husband at the time that the tornado touched down.

'It's raining and it's pouring down really bad and before you know it everything was flying everywhere,' Silverman said. 'Our car back windows blew out, our side windows blew out. I thought I was a goner.'

The couple's two-year-old son was in the back seat.

'So glad he's OK because the whole back window just busted in,' Silverman said.

'It was just crazy. I've never seen anything like this in my life.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
