Dele Alli was at the centre of an unsavoury scene in the latest north London derby when the Tottenham midfielder was struck by a bottle thrown by an Arsenal supporter.
In the 73rd minute, with Mauricio Pochettino's side in cruise control after Alli made it 2-0, the English playmaker was hit by a plastic bottle launched by the crowd as tensions boiled over with the hosts facing a Carabao Cup exit.
Gunners defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos attempted to cool the situation by guiding Alli away from the sidelines and the crowd but the Tottenham midfielder could not risk biting back as he produced a 2-0 gesture which further riled home supporters.

Dele Alli was struck by a plastic bottle during Wednesday night's north London derby game

The Tottenham midfielder was angry as he turned to the Arsenal fans to see what was thrown

He could not resist ramping up the bad blood between the rivals with his own 2-0 gesture
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Alli said: 'It is what it is, it made the goal a little bit sweeter and the win.'
Arsenal are analysing CCTV in a bid to identify the supporter who threw a bottle at Alli.
For pundits Alex Scott and Jamie Redknapp, more needs to be done to stamp such behaviour out of the game.
Scott said: 'It's complete stupidity, I don’t know why this would come through your head. You don’t need to do this. You need to stamp down on this. You need to start banning people.

Sky pundits Jamie Redknapp and Alex Scott described the bottle throwing as 'disgusting'
'Why would you do this? This is the sort of thing we need to stomp out.'
For Redknapp it was 'disgusting behaviour' that needs to be tackled before something more dangerous is hurled at players.
'It is obvious we are not doing enough to stamp racism out but if you come to the football to throw a bottle at a professional player it’s embarrassing,' he said.
'Don’t come. When you throw something at someone like that it is disgusting behaviour. It’s not good enough. Someone will throw a coin and it could take a player’s eye out.'
Alli was walking down the touchline to collect the ball so he could get the game restarted with a throw-in.
But play was halted after a water bottle was thrown from a nearby Arsenal supported and referee John Moss quickly intervened in a bid to prevent unsavoury scenes dominating the encounter.

Sokratis Ppapastathopoulos was the main Arsenal player trying to calm a furious Alli down
Sokratis was the main man in Arsenal's ranks trying to calm Alli down as he was left apoplectic.
Tottenham were at the Emirates at the start of December in the league when they were beaten 4-2.
But off the pitch that was a day which was marred by a Tottenham fan throwing a banana at Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his brace.
That saw the supporter arrested and Tottenham strongly condemned the behaviour.
On the pitch in that tie it was a match where both sets of players had to be separated by coaches and managers after a scuffle between substitutes and Tottenham's players following Eric Dier's goal.
And having exacted revenge in style - first Heung-min Son and then Alli, who produced a delightful lob over Petr Cech - Tottenham were not going to pass up the chance to taunt their hosts if the chance presented itself.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
