«Breaking News» Base jumper is injured after their 'parachute fails to open' when they leapt off a cliff at Dover

A base jumper has been injured after their parachute reportedly failed to open causing them to plunge from a cliff near Dover. 

Police, fire crews, paramedics, an air ambulance and the coastguard rushed to the scene before the casualty was winched away to hospital via helicopter. 

The incident happened at around midday after the jumper's parachute reportedly failed to fully open. It is not yet known how badly injured the person is.

Witnesses say another paraglider, who was there at the time, raised the alarm to people on the beach. 

It is thought the casualty was laying on or near to rocks at the base of the cliff.

The area remains cordoned off to the public. 

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said just before 3pm. 'The casualty was winched on board the Lydd Coastguard helicopter and was taken to the top of the cliff where he was transferred into the care of the Air Ambulance for onward transfer to hospital. 

'All Coastguard teams are in the process of being stood down.'    

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: 'This is still an on-going incident when a base-jumper's parachute failed jumping off the cliff.

'We are on scene along with Coastguard and air ambulance.' 

A spokesman for Walmer RNLI said: 'Crews were called back to the scene at around 1.45pm after those tending to the base jumper on the beach were at risk of being cut off by the tide.

'Both the Atlantic 85 Donald McLauchlan and D Class Duggie Rodbard have been launched although one has been diverted to help a fishing boat with engine problems.'

A police spokesman said: 'Kent Police was made aware at 12.20pm on Friday 28 December 2018 of a report of a man seen on a cliff in St Margaret's Bay in Dover.

'Officers are currently at the scene to assist HM Coastguard, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.'

A spokesman for SECAmb said: 'A base-jumper's parachute failed jumping off the cliff. We are on scene along with Coastguard and air ambulance.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
