'It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.
Coronation Street's executive producer John Whiston said he was 'really sad' to see Kym go after more than a decade with the show.
He said: 'Kym has done a fantastic job. We will be really sad to lose her when she goes but totally understand that, after dedicating herself to the show for so long she now fancies trying something else.'
Kym found fame in the pop group Hear'Say which she joined after taking part in the TV series Popstars in 2001.

She made her on screen acting debut four years later in an episode of Doctors before joining Coronation Street in 2006.
During her time on the show, Kym has been involved in some heavy plots, including suffering a stillbirth, being drugged and kidnapped by her ex-partner Will, and being involved in a car crash with her teenage son Ali.
Speaking previously to The Sunday People about playing Michelle, Kym said: 'The good thing about playing a character like her, she's got so many sides.
'She can be a b***h, she can be sensitive and she can be feisty too. She's just so well-rounded.'

The TV star is set to become a grandmother this year as her daughter Emilie Cunliffe, 21, is expecting her first child.
Kym explained she hopes her own experience as a young mum at 18 with son David, 23, will help Emilie through her pregnancy, revealing that she sat alongside her daughter when she took the pregnancy test.
Emilie told OK! Magazine: 'I keep thinking, am I really going to be able to do this? For ages I couldn't actually get the words 'I'm pregnant' out of my mouth because I didn't know how people would react – I even made Mum tell my dad!
'Luckily I have the most supportive parents in the world and they're both really excited.'

She told The Sun: ...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
