«Breaking News» Star Wars Episode IX: Carrie Fisher's appearance is 'meant to be'

It was revealed in July last year that J.J. Abrams would be using unreleased footage of her in the next Star Wars film, following her tragic death in December 2016.

And Carrie Fisher's brother Todd, 60, has revealed the actresses appearance in the final film of the sequel trilogy is 'going to look like it was meant to be.'

Speaking to Good Morning America in December, the director said: There's a lot of minutes of footage. I don't mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline.'

'That's what's going to give everybody such a great kick, it's going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.'

While Todd admitted he wasn't able to say more on the subject, he did say that he and Carrie's family are 'thrilled at what's been done.'

Episode IX sees The Force Awakens director J.J. back in the director's chair, after Rian Johnson took over for The Last Jedi.

Of using the unreleased footage, which was shot in the 2015 film, the director said in a statement: 'Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character.'

'With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie's legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.'

Carrie died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 60, and she played the character Leia Organa since the first Star Wars film, which debuted in 1977.

The actress was survived by her daughter Billie Lourd, 26, who also takes care of Carrie's beloved French Bulldog, Gary.

On the anniversary of her mother's death, the actress shared a touching tribute with a video of her performing an emotional song on the piano.

In the caption, the American Horror Story star wrote: 'It has been two years since my Momby's death and I still don't know what the "right" thing to do on a death anniversary is (I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones).

'So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together - sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favourite songs.'

Billie - who also lost her grandmother Debbie Reynolds the day after her mother's passing - also said her career helps her stay 'happy'.

She explained: 'I've found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I'm passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile.

'I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to 'keep on moving'. As my Momby once said, 'take your broken heart and turn it into art' - whatever that art may be for you. (sic)'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
