«Breaking News» Jeff Bridges' Golden Globes speech as he accepts Cecil B. DeMille Award

Jeff Bridges proudly accepted the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, which honors outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, at the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.

In lieu of the many recent acceptance speeches with a hefty political tone, the 69-year old instead opted for a more light-hearted, and sometimes jumbled speech, that resembled his iconic role in The Big Lebowski.

'If I’m lucky I’ll be associated with The Dude for the rest of my life,' he said after thanking the film's writer-directors Joel and Ethan Cohen for creating the role.

Bridges' Hell Or High water co-star, Chris Pine, presented the award to the screen legend, saying they bonded over their 'mutual love of caftans' and 'Turkish sandals', and for having 'wonderful show biz fathers who showed them the way.'

He also called Bridges a master craftsman and a 'truly kind and wonderful gentleman.'

Once Bridges made his way on stage, he thanked his wife for '45 years of support and love', other family members, and shared stories from his time in the movie industry.

He specifically singled out architect Buckminster Fuller for his use of trim tabs, which are used to help stabilize a boat or aircraft, as a metaphor for how all humanity is connected.

'I think of myself as a trim tab and all of us are trim tabs man, we’re alive!' he said. 'We can make a difference! We can turn this ship in the way we wanna go, man! Towards love, creating a healthy planet for all of us.'

He also acknowledged some directors, such as Scott Cooper, who directed him in 2009's Crazy Heart, which resulted in an Oscar and Golden Golden Globe for Bridges, as well as the Coen brothers, who directed him in The Big Lebowski and True Grit.

Despite not being a huge hit and mixed reviews when it was released in 1998, The Big Lebowski and Bridges' role as The Dude has since gone to reach cult status.

There has been talk of a sequel over the last year. In fact, Bridges revealed to Variety in September 2018 that he would be in favor of another film if quote: 'I was in it.'

Previous honorees of the Cecil B. DeMille Award include: George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Audrey Hepburn, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, Barbra Streisand, Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
