«Breaking News» Four men sentenced in shooting death of Olympian Tyson Gay's daughter

Four men who were found guilty in the death of US Olympian Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter Trinity have been sentenced.

Trinity was an innocent bystander caught in a hail storm of bullets during a shootout in the parking lot of Cook Out restaurant in Kentucky in October 2016.

The rising track star was shot in the neck. Authorities still don't know who fired the .45 caliber bullet that killed her.

Chazerae Taylor, who was found guilty of wanton murder and four counts of wanton endangerment, was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Witnesses said Taylor, 40, was the first person to fire a gun at the scene - leading to the chain reaction of the shootout that led to Trinity's death.

'I'm sorry for everything that happened and I still every day think about all the ways I could have went about it,' Taylor told the courtroom on Wednesday, according to WKYT.

D'Vonta Middlebrooks, 23, received a 15-year sentence in the shooting after the jury found he was a persistent felony offender.

Middlebrooks, who said little in the courtroom, had been found guilty of wanton endangerment.

Taylor's 21-year-old son D'Markeo was sentenced to 15 months time served and five years probation.

D'Markeo read a statement apologizing to Trinity's family during the sentencing.

'I'm truly sorry,' he said. 'Trinity and I loved each other. Talked every day. She didn't deserve any of this.

'I still see her big smile. Every day. I wish I could go back to do that night over. Trinity had a big impact on all of our lives and we all loved her.'

Lamonte Williams, 23, was sentenced to one year time served. He had been found guilty on five counts of wanton endangerment.

'Obviously this is a tragedy for everyone involved,' said Abe Mashni, Williams' attorney, after the sentencing.

'We are extremely happy that Lamonte will be home with his family for Christmas. We wish Trinity could be with her family.'

Sentencing was originally scheduled to take place in November, but the judge postponed it so that he could have more time to go through case documents.

Problems that led to the shootout first arose on the night of October 15, 2016, when D'Markeo and a friend were robbed of a gun at Cook Out.

He returned to the Cook Out the next day with his father and Williams to look for the robber and get the gun back. Middlebrooks had been at the scene.

Taylor then fired shots in the air. His attorney argued that he had been trying to disperse the crowd of people in the parking lot.

But prosecutors argued that the gunshots led to Trinity's death and showed an 'extreme indifference to human life'.

'[Taylor] knew how many people were in the parking lot and could be potentially shot if people fired shots in reaction to his gunfire,' said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Brad Bryant.

Shoshana Boyd, Trinity's mother, told Lexington Herald-Leader that her daughter was a 4.0 student who had never caused any trouble.

'Honestly I don't care how they feel about anything,' Boyd said of the four defendants. 'They get to see their loved ones, I don't.'

Although the sentencing has finally brought closure to Trinity's death, Boyd noted that it will never bring her back.

'Me and Tyson have to go to the cemetery every single holiday and every birthday,' she said.

Gay expressed similar feelings after the four men were found guilty in October.

'I just hope something positive comes out of this situation,' Gay told the Herald-Leader at the time.

'I really believe our prosecutors did a great job... I'm proud that my daughter got some justice.

'It's just one of those things when you're never going to be satisfied, but at the same time, you have to learn to deal with it and just hope for the best.'

The rising ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
