Legendary EastEnders characters Lofty Holloway and punk Mary Smith are set for a return to the BBC soap opera, some 30-years after leaving Albert Square for good.
The pair quickly became part of the long-running show’s fabric as two of the show’s original 26 characters following its original launch in February 1985, turning actors Tom Watt, now 62, and Linda Davidson, 54, into household names.
Both left the show in 1988, but will now return to vastly changed Albert Square and its fictional east London borough of Walford for the funeral of Doctor Harold Legg – another original cast-member.

A source told The Sun: 'Lofty and Mary The Punk are two of the most memorable characters of the original set of stars.
'It’s staggering to think it’s been more than 30 years since they were last on the Square but soap fans will be delighted to hear of their comeback.
'Regular viewers will know Dr. Legg's health is bad and it’s thought his death will play out in February next year, and these two will be back around the time of his funeral.'
The pair are expected to film their first scenes at the show's home in Elstree, Hertfordshire, within the week, with a formal announcement confirming their return set to follow.

Old times: Lofty develop a stuttering romance with Michelle Fowler, played by Susan Tully, after gallantly offering to help raise her illegitimate child with pub landlord Den Watts, but was left heartbroken after she jilted him at the alter on their wedding day
Hapless, asthmatic and routinely clumsy, Lofty endeared himself to fans of the show after making his first appearance on the show during its third episode.
The character went on to develop a stuttering romance with Michelle Fowler, played by Susan Tully, after gallantly offering to help raise her illegitimate child with pub landlord Den Watts, but was left heartbroken after she jilted him at the alter on their wedding day.
The pair eventually married in secret, only for Lofty to leave Michelle after she opted to abort their only child, trading the Square for a handyman's job in rural Bedfordshire.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
