As 2018 draws to a close the trend for serving food in restaurants on anything other than a plate shows no sign of dwindling.
It's a bone of contention among many diners who have begged for the return of the humble plate, which is regularly abandoned in favour of a chopping board, bin lids, kitchen sinks, dog bowls and even a log.
The latest example was shared by Elayne Okaya from Kenya on Twitter, who received a 'Caesar Salad' consisting of a full bunch of lettuce leaves sprinkled with cheese and a side of dressing, served on a chopping board.
She was left to cut up her own vegetables and even discovered that the chicken part of her dish was actually wrapped inside the rice paper at the bottom of the stalks.
Sharing the post, which quickly attracted thousands of likes, she joked: 'These high-end restaurants will kill us one day.'
Her picture was later shared on the popular We Want Plates Reddit thread, which also has a Twitter account of the same name set up by Ross McGinnes from Yorkshire, where diners continue to share the most irritating examples of creative crockery.
A woman in Africa went out to enjoy a meal at a fancy restaurant, selecting a Caesar salad from the menu only for a huge bunch of lettuce leaves sprinkled with cheese and served with a side of dressing to arrive on a chopping board - she revealed the chicken was wrapped inside the rice paper at the stalk
She joked that 'these high-end restaurants will kill us one day' adding that she thought she had ordered a Caesar salad not leaves fresh from the ground
One man was surprised to see his quesadilla bowl of chilli and mash arrive in a dog bowl, sharing the image on the We Want Plates Reddit thread he joked: 'I always wanted to pay good money to eat out of a literal dog bowl'
A dish named 'everything but the kitchen sink' actually came with a sink. Country fried chicken with scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, bacon, and some cheese sauce along with tomatoes and jalapeños and cheddar all served with a tap
When somewhere runs out of plates and the nearest thing is well, a bin lid. One Redditor shared his interesting Christmas feast that was 'balanced precariously on a wire frame pedestal and nearly slipped off several times'
When restaurants go really literal, as this dish proved as what appears to be an arctic roll adorned with sauces which the customer said was a 'log slice themed dessert served on a log slice'
Filey Bistro and Coffee Bar in Yorkshire, serves a eclectic afternoon tea of fish and chips in a watering can, finger sandwiches on a cocktail stick, strawberries and cream, scones, soup and milkshake all on a bright pink miniature picnic table with only side plates in sight
A simple starter turns complicated contraption, as what appear to be miniature bhajis and samosas come in their own little trollies with salads and dipping sauce
Not satisfied with a normal glass dish like most, this restaurant thought of a ingenious way to serve the Italian Tiramisu dish - in a plant pot complete with its own little garnish sprig
When you think of macaroni and cheese you think of a big hearty bowl of cheesy pasta, but this chap was in for a rude awakening when his meal arrived in a martini glass and a side of meatballs
Doughnuts are designed to fit snugly into a box ready for grubby fingers to dig into, but this restaurant opted for an entire wheel of the sweet treats. The Redditor joked about the lack of plate: 'I'd settle for a box even'
At first glance there's nothing out of the ordinary, but then take a closer looks the chef has served the burger and chips on a skillet with a side of chips in a tin can: 'Never thought it’d happen to me, but here I am with a skillet and tin can'
Tin cans seem to be a popular option instead of plates. This time a papaya salad is served in the cleaned out tin, but just to elevate it a little more the dressing came in a syringe

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
