They work with some of the top stylists in the business and have designers queuing up to give them free clothes in return for publicity. So you'd think today's celebrities would never leave the house looking anything other than perfect. But, as these outfits show, even the rich and famous can get it horribly wrong. CLAUDIA CONNELL looks back at the fashion frights of 2018 . . .
You know what it's like — you're doing a spot of last-minute washing up and leave home forgetting to take off your Marigolds. Surely that's the only explanation for the bespoke Prada ensemble Rita Ora, 28, wore to the London Summertime Ball concert in June?
PALOMA FAITH
The singer usually works with hip stylist Karl Willett, but perhaps he had a day off sick and Bertie Bassett stepped in to help out. Or is there some other reason why Paloma, 37, visited Chris Evans's Radio 2 Breakfast Show in London dressed as a Liquorice Allsort?
SALMA HAYEK
This, wouldn't look out of place in My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Yet the £500 gown Salma, 52, wore to the Oscars was made by Alessandro Michele for Gucci with enough crystals to build a chandelier
GILLIAN MCKEITH
Who says a £60 net curtain wrapped around a leotard and teamed with platform glitter boots can't be stylish? Everyone, that's who. Gillian, 59, famously tells people on TV: 'You are what you eat.' Wonder how that dog's dinner tasted . . .
VICTORIA BECKHAM
Her fashion empire posted losses of £10.2 million and outfits like this can't help. In September, Victoria, 44, teamed this £1,765 animal print two-piece with baby blue accessories that were more out of tune than a Spice Girls show
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
Hem below the knee. Tick. Hat. Tick. She may be the brand ambassador, but when Keira Knightley, 33, went to Buckingham Palace to collect her OBE, was it really the done thing to dress entirely in £8,000 of Chanel?
CLAIRE FOY
For her brilliant portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, Claire, 34, has won a Golden Globe and an Emmy. But it's unlikely she'll be winning any fashion accolades for this £700 gown from Alexander McQueen — unless there is a gong for Best Actress In A Dress Three Sizes Too Big For Her
KATE BECKINSALE
Kate, 45, didn't linger long on the red carpet at the GQ awards on a cold September evening. And no wonder. This £6,000 Julien McDonald gown is off-the-shoulder, backless, thigh-less, midriff-less — and not forgetting . . . tasteless
GWYNETH PALTROW
The sooner Gwyneth, 46, consciously uncouples from clothes like this pink cape and silk dress ensemble, worn to a charity fundraiser in New York last month, the better for all of us.
JULIA ROBERTS
Big mistake. Big. Huge! What on earth was Pretty Woman star Julia, 51, thinking when she wore this £5,000 Valentino gown to a New York event this month?
AMAL CLOONEY
At the Met Gala in New York in May, Amal, 40, chose this £9,000 outfit by Richard Quinn, who said he was 'depicting female empowerment and modern religion by referencing the stringent oppression that women faced'. And you thought it was just an old curtain
AMBER HEARD
She stars as Mera, Queen of the Sea, in Aquaman, so Amber, 32, dressed like something dredged from the bottom of the ocean for the London premiere
NICOLE KIDMAN
Nicole, 51, wore this £5,000 cobalt-coloured outfit by Armani Prive at the Oscars in March. The oversized rigid bow was probably the worst feature of this fussy dress
JENNIFER LOPEZ
J-lo's film Second Act was panned by critics and is on target to be a box office flop. But at least people were talking about the £4,000 pink tulle Giambattista Valli gown she wore to the premiere this month. It was so huge Jennifer, 49, had to arrive in a van instead of a limousine
TILDA SWINTON
Tilda, 58, has always had a quirky style, as this outfit she wore to the premiere of her movie Suspiria shows. Are tiny people trying to get out from inside her jacket?
CHERYL TWEEDY
This £500 droopy tangerine dress by Cushnie is called the 'cold shoulder' dress. Cheryl, 35, chose to wear it on her first public outing — to Simon Cowell's party in June — after splitting from Liam Payne
RIHANNA
The singer, 30, wore this daringly low-cut design by Poiret in London in June during the heatwave. She looked as though she was wrapped in gold foil and narrowly avoided roasting herself like a prize turkey
JENNA COLEMAN
After three years in corsets and crinolines as Queen Victoria, Jenna, 32, went for a bell-bottomed floral jumpsuit at a BBC photocall to pulicise The Call. We were not amused
GIGI HADID
Gigi, 23, is lucky enough to suit any colour. But the model should have avoided this £810 'explosion in a paint factory' catsuit by Versace in New York in June

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
