«Breaking News» Sam Smith 'to play the wedding singer in the Four Weddings and a Funeral Red Nose Day sequel'

Fans went into a frenzy when a sequel to iconic romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral for Red Nose Day was announced earlier this month.

And Sam Smith is said to be the latest star to join the hotly-anticipated sequel in which Lily James and Alicia Vikander's characters will wed, reports The Sun.

The Stay With Me hitmaker, 26, will reportedly play the wedding singer in mini film One Red Nose Day And A Wedding, where he will sing Elton John's version of Chapel of Love.

Star: Lily will play the daughter of Hugh Grant and Andie McDowell's characters Charles and Carrie and was seen filming last week

The wedding itself is said to feature Alicia and Lily's characters, with Lily playing the daughter of Hugh Grant and Andie McDowell's characters Charles and Carrie and Alicia taking on the role of Faith.   

A Red Nose Day source said: 'They're chuffed to get Sam on board for this.

'He's always more than happy to do his bit for charity, and this is an iconic remake for a good cause. His cameo won't be massive, but viewers won't miss him.   

'The team have kept his involvement under wraps, as although they're keen to build some hype around the release, they want a few surprises too.'

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Lily, Alicia and Sam for comment.         

Red Nose Day co-creator Richard Curtis wrote the original film, and has written the new short, while original director Mike Newel also returns for the sequel, which will pick up 25 years after the original film. 

One Red Nose Day and a Wedding will feature original Four Weddings cast members Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, John Hannah, Rowan Atkinson, David Haig, Sophie Thompson, James Fleet, David Bower, Robin McCaffrey, Anna Chancellor, Rupert Vansittart, Simon Kunz, Sara Crowe and Timothy Walker. 

They will be joined in the short film by some very special guest stars. 

The short film follows on from the huge success of Red Nose Day Actually, a follow up to Love Actually that premiered during Red Nose Day's 2017 edition.

Dashing: Hugh will also reprise his role as the lovable Charles

Richard Curtis says of the reunion: ' We're all definitely older – I suspect no wiser. It's been really enjoyable working out what's happened to all the characters - and now they get back together for the 5th wedding. Where, as usual, not everything will go as planned.'

The original film ended with Hugh's Charles finally getting together with Carrie, played by Andie, after calling off his wedding to Henrietta/Duck Face (Anna Chancellor).

There will be a notable absence from the cast though as sadly Charlotte Coleman who played Charles' sister Scarlett died in 2001.  

Simon Callow will also be skipping out on an appearance as his character Gareth famously dies during the original film.

It also launched the international career of leading man Hugh, and his huge success as a romantic comedy icon. 

His fame also soared thanks to the premiere of Four Weddings, which saw his then unknown girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley wow in the now iconic Versace safety-pin dress. 

Andie meanwhile achieved her first major box office success with the movie, along with her other early nineties hit Groundhog Day.    

The Four Weddings short film follows the massive success of Love Actually's red Nose Day special which tied up the storylines of Hugh Grant and co 13 years on from the original movie.  

One Red Nose Day and a Wedding is a one off special that will premiere exclusively during Red Nose Day 2019 on BBC One on Friday, 15th March. It will also feature as part of NBC's programming for Red Nose Day USA in May.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
