«Breaking News» Oxford University scientists discover single gene linked to male impotence in a major breakthrough

A single gene has been linked to impotence after a breakthrough study led by Oxford University scientists.

The research involved analysing the genomes of 6,000 men - who admitted being impotent - to help scientists pinpoint any genetic factor in erectile dysfunction.

Researchers compared the genetic profiles of the volunteers with those who were unaffected by the condition, finding that mutations in a single gene played an important role.

The gene in question, called SIM1, is now believed to be the first linked to erectile dysfunction, The Times reported.

Oxford University-led scientists published a paper this month which stated: 'The findings provide insights into the biological underpinnings and causes of erectile dysfunction.

They added: 'It may help prioritise the development of therapies for this common disorder.'

Although psychological factors play a role, physical problems are often the cause of the condition.

Smoking, which damages small blood vessels, is one cause.

According to the NHS, while most men occasionally fail to get or keep an erection, this can be attributed to stress, tiredness, anxiety or drinking too much alcohol, and is 'nothing to worry about'.

But frequent occurrences may be due to physical, hormonal or emotional problems.

The Health Service recommends losing weight - if you're overweight - stopping smoking, eating a healthy diet, exercising daily and reducing stress and anxiety.

It advises not cycling for a while, if you cycle for more than three hours a week, and not drinking more than 14 units of alcohol a week.

Age is a common factor with the condition - erectile dysfunction affects up to 40% of men over 60.

In the new research, scientists used data from biobanks - which collate genetic and health information - from Britain, Estonia and the United States, giving them the world's largest sample of impotent men.

Defective versions of the SIM1 gene have been linked with obesity, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure - conditions often accompanied with erectile dysfunction.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
