Jessica Alice Cook, 33, 'told police her baby would sleep a lot and she wouldn't wake him to feed' and has now been charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death
A Missouri couple have been accused of starving their six-week-old-baby to death after he weighed more than a pound less when he died than when he was born.
Little Kanaan Compton appeared malnourished when paramedics were called to his home in Crystal City in February, according to court records.
His parents Phillip Thomas Leon Compton, 31, and Jessica Alice Cook, 33, have now been charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.
The newborn was born last Christmas Eve weighing more than six pounds and died six weeks later weighing just five, The St Louis Dispatch reports.
Court documents say paramedics were called to their home to reports of a baby having difficulty breathing, Fox 2 Now reports.

Kanaan was rushed to Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus but died less than an hour later.
Compton, 31, is said to have told investigators 'he thought the child was fine, due to him and Ms. Cook both being very skinny' and said he 'thought his wife was feeding him'.

But the new dad is said to have admitted the tot hadn't had a bowel movement in more than five days.
He said he thought his partner had sorted it and said his own mom even contacted him to say Kanaan appeared thin and needed to see a doctor, according to cops.
The police report says first time dad Compton 'called Ms. Cook in multiple times to check on the child rather than getting out of bed' on the morning of his son's death.
It adds: 'After being woke by Ms. Cook who was scared for the child, Compton went into the bathroom before checking on the condition of the child.'
A lawyer for Compton, Lenny Kagan, told The St Louis Dispatch: 'He worked full time and was only assuming his wife was feeding his child.
'He is a first-time parent and a good guy. His life has been turned upside down.
'It's a 100 percent tragic accident. Phillip is devastated. The family is devastated.'

Police say the couple cancelled doctors appointments due to bad weather, no way of getting there or simply forgetting.
Cook is said to have told police her baby would sleep a lot and she wouldn't wake him to feed.
The baby's gran reportedly asked people to pray for Kanaan's parents following his death and said the family was heartbroken.
Compton and Cook, who does not have an attorney, were only charged Friday but officials have not said why it has taken 10 months for the arrest.
An autopsy said Kanaan died as a result of malnutrition and probable dehydration.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
