«Breaking News» Maroon 5 is struggling to find acts to perform with them at the Super Bowl Halftime Show

The NFL is scrambling find artists to guest perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show this year, which critics say has become music's least wanted gig.

With less than two months to go for Super Bowl LIII on February 3, the NFL is yet to officially announce an artist for the show that will be watched by more than 100 million people nationwide.

Maroon 5 fronted by Adam Levine will reportedly headline the show, although the NFL has not officially announced it.

However, the band is struggling to find acts to go on stage with them because 'no one wants to be associated with the NFL'  thanks to the league's controversy with Colin Kaepernick and his 'take a knee' protest against police brutality.

Sources say 'no one wants to associate themselves with the NFL' as a result of its tense feud with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (center) who sparked controversy when he knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality

The NFL reportedly first offered the headline gig to Rihanna, who declined it because she supports Kaepernick.

'The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next' year's performer in Atlanta. They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn't agree with the NFL's stance,' a source said to US Weekly.

Rebuffed by Rihanna, the NFL extended the offer to Maroon 5.

According to the magazine, the band is 'having a lot of trouble finding guests' and 'no one wants to associate themselves with the NFL' as a result of tense feud with Kaepernick.

Maroon 5 tried to get Cardi B, who raps on their track Girls Like You, to join the performance. A source said 'as of today she's not'.

'She's been going back and forth, but it's a no right now,' the source said.

The band has reached out to half a dozen artists for the featured guest slot, but none have agreed to do it, according to Variety.

Other artists reportedly being considered for the gig are Andre 3000 of Outkast, Usher, Lauryn Hill and Nicki Minaj.

The NFL also reached out to Mary J. Blige, who reportedly declined citing scheduling conflicts.

Maroon 5 has also faced intense backlash after reports of their performance were published, with critics saying the NFL should have hired artists from Atlanta - considered the capital of black music - where the Super Bowl will take place.

Fans have pointed to Atlanta-based record label Quality Control's artists who include Migos, Lil Yachty and Lil Baby.

Having Cardi and Migos perform seemed like a strong contender until Cardi announced her separation from Migos artist Offset.

Other musical artists in town in the days prior to the game include Cardi, Post Malone and Bruno Mars.

Ludacris and Lil Jon are also featured at Bud Light shows held on the weekend of the game.

The Super Bowl is also a difficult gig to nail because it's unpaid, however it does have a massive viewing audience.

The NFL must land an A-list act or give an exciting alternative performance to prevent viewers at home from changing the channel.

'It’s like a movie — if you can’t cast the biggest stars, you need a high-concept,' public relations veteran Howard Bragman of LaBrea.Media said to Variety.

'If other networks smell a weaker show, they’re gonna be counter-programming, so you have to come out really strong,' he added.

He said 'there's no question it's going to be a challenge' for Maroon 5.

Colin Kaepernick's beef with the NFL dates back to 2016 when he kneeled during the national anthem in a peaceful protest of police brutality while he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

He has remained unsigned since that controversy.

In 2017 he filed a grievance against the NFL and its owners accusing them of colluding to keep him off the football field.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
